First Sergeant Nicholas J. Brundige

Nic Brundige was born in Sturgis, Michigan, on January 16, 1987. He graduated from Three Rivers High School in Three Rivers, Michigan, in 2005. After high school, Nic enlisted in the Marine Corps and attended recruit training at the 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California (CA). Upon completion of recruit training in October of 2005, Private Brundige attended Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was assigned the military occupational specialty 0311, Infantry Rifleman. Directly after his time at Infantry Training Battalion, he reported to Light Armored Vehicle School, where he was promoted to Private First Class and was assigned the military occupational specialty 0313, Light Armored Vehicle Crewman.

 

 In February 2006, Private First Class Brundige reported to Charlie Company, 2D Light Armored Reconnaissance (LAR) Battalion in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina (NC). He would rise through the billets and ranks becoming a Vehicle commander and a Corporal throughout his two deployments with LAR in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

 

In January of 2009, Corporal Brundige reported to the Marine Combat Instructor Course at the Advanced Infantry Training Company, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion-East, School of Infantry-East Training Command, Camp Lejeune, NC. While there, he received a promotion to Sergeant. Sergeant Brundige served as a Combat Instructor until successful completion. He then reported to Bravo Company 2D LAR Battalion in Camp Lejeune and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant. SSgt would deploy in 2015 as a Platoon Sergeant to the Red Sea with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. He would eventually obtain the billets of a Platoon Commander, and the Company First Sergeant.

 

In April 2016, SSgt Brundige reported to Marine Barracks Washington (MBW) to hold the billet of Assistant Funeral Director and Funeral Director for the United States Marine Corps. While at MBW, SSgt would be selected and promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He conducted more the 1900 funerals consisting of past commandants, 4-star generals, congress members, Medal of Honor recipients, famous actors, and countless active and retired Marines in his three-plus years assigned to the barracks as a Funeral Director for the Marine Corps.

 

In July 2019, GySgt Brundige executed orders to 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion and then to II Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group (II MIG) to stand up a Headquarters (HQ) Company and sit as the Company First Sergeant until he was selected to and frocked to First Sergeant in February 2021. First Sergeant Brundige reported to 1st Marine Raider Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC, in February of 2021 and served as the Marine Special Operations Company First Sergeant for Marine Special Operations Company C where he then deployed to Iraq for a Third time in support Operation Inherent Resolve with the MSOC.

 

First Sergeant Brundige has a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Leadership Studies from the University of Central Michigan and graduated from the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy in October of 2022. First Sergeants personal Military decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation medal with “C” device and gold star in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal, Combat Action Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal with four bronze stars in lieu of 5th award and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal
