The mission of Marine Corps Detachment JBSA Lackland, TX is to provide administrative, training, and logistical support to Marine Corps personnel assigned and attached to MARDET JBSA Lackland, JBSA Randolph and Holloman Air Force Base.  Execute resident entry-level/skills-progression training for enlisted personnel qualifying in the 5812 Military Working Dog (MWD) and 5813 Traffic Management Collision Investigator (TMCI) occupational field, to provide Marines to the operating forces and supporting establishments.  Provide administrative support to the Marines assigned to the Joint Information Operations Warfare Center, United States Strategic Command, and other designated Marines in the vicinity of JBSA Lackland.

When driving to Lackland, you will be arriving on four major roads: I-10/Hwy 90, Hwy 281, I-37, or I-35. There are two main gates with Visitors Centers: The Gateway East Gate and Airman's Gate.

  1. Arriving from the east on I-10 or Hwy 90

    • Travel through San Antonio on I-10/Hwy 90 West

    • Exit on Military Drive and turn left

    • Travel South approximately one mile to the Gateway East gate which will be on your left

  2. Arriving from the North on I-35, Hwy 281, or I-10

    • When arriving in San Antonio, turn right onto Loop 410 West

    • Take exit #7 Valley Hi / Lackland AFB

    • Turn left on Valley Hi, and continue straight to the Airman's Gate

  3. Arriving from the South on I-35 or I-37

    • When arriving in San Antonio, turn left onto Loop 410 West

    • Take exit #7 Valley Hi / Lackland AFB

    • Turn right on Valley Hi, and continue straight to the Airman's Gate

All Marines checking into the Marine Corps Detachment Lackland AFB during normal business hours will report, in Service Alphas to the Admin office located on the second deck of 1320 Truemper St. Bldg 9122, Rm 2901. If you are checking in on the weekend or after normal business hours contact the Staff Duty officer at 210-389-2630 for further instruction. In the event that you check in after normal working hours, you will report to the Administration Office the following business day at 0730.

The below checklist is information that must be in hand or available when arriving at Marine Corps Detachment.

  • Bring a signed copy of original orders.

  • Bring all PCS related receipts for completing your travel claim.

Marine students checking in on the weekend or after normal business hours should report to the Staff Duty Officer located on the third deck of Bldg 10804.  Bldg 10804 is located near the Live Oak dinning facility on Femoyer St.  Call the Staff Duty Officer at (210) 389-2630 for additional directions and check in instructions.  No later than the COB on the first day of your course, all students must report to the Marine Corps Detachment Administration Office located in room 2901 on the second deck of Bldg 9122 at the corner of Carswell and Truemper.  

Marine students attending any course at JBSA-Lackland will bring the following

-FUNDED TAD ORDERS

-MARINE CORPS PT UNIFORM (GREEN SHORTS, GREEN SHIRT)

-MARINE CORPS RUNNING SUIT (NOV - MAR)

-RUNNING SHOES

-SEASONAL MARPAT UNIFORM

-APPROPRIATE SEASONAL SERVICE UNIFORM (WILL WEAR ON FRIDAYS)

-DRESS BLUE ALPHAS (IF YOU WILL BE HERE NOV 10TH)

Things to know before you come attend a course

All Fleet Returnee's (Private First Class through Gunnery Sergeant) will be billeted at the Gateway Inn aboard JBSA-Lackland.  The phone number to make reservations for billeting is located above under "Temporary Quarters/Lodging." 

If there are no vacancies for billeting on-base, the Gateway Inn will provide a "STATEMENT OF NON-AVAILABILITY" and a list of phone numbers for off-base commercial lodging.  If being billeted off-base, a rental car or POV will likely be necessary for transportation purposes.  Authorization for a rental car or POV is an individual unit policy and must be coordinated with your home/parent unit or station and must be stated on your orders for proper reimbursement.
