What is Family Readiness

The goal of the Uniform Readiness Program is to provide support to Marines, Sailors, and their families. Family is defined as all members of a Marine's family, and Marines have three families: the family they are born into, sworn into and married into. Family support shall be provided to service members (regardless of marital status), spouses, children, and the designated parents/extended family members of Marines and Sailors. Personal and Family readiness leads to an increase in unit readiness.

What can a Uniformed Readiness Coordinator (URC) do for you?
  • The URC is the Command’s representative and point of contact for all family readiness issues and concerns for all military members, both married and single.

  • The subject matter expert for all MCCS programs, events and resources.

  • Advocate and information source for the families of single Marines.

How can you assist the Family Readiness team?
  • Maintain your wills, powers of attorney, contact information and other important family documents as applicable.

  • Volunteer as a Family Readiness Assistant or Volunteer

  • Share information with other military-connected families.

  • Support family events through attendance and participation.

  • Advocate and provide support for families who have members deployed.

"Marines take care of their own - period. The enduring pledge between Marines is never more sacred than during time of war. Just as every Marine makes a commitment to the Corps when they earn the title Marine, the Corps makes an enduring commitment to every Marine - and an enduring commitment to their family." (Quote by General Conway, 34th CMC Planning Guidance)

The Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21 (MATSG-21), Pensacola, FL, can help support the local community in a variety of ways. In general, MATSG-21 is capable of utilizing its personnel, equipment, and services in support of community events such as festivals, parades, and ceremonies. Community event organizers may request support from MATSG-21 for their event through the MATSG-21 Special Events & Volunteer Support Request (SEVR) process. By filling out either the online, electronic form, or a hardcopy DD Form 2536, event planners may provide specifics regarding event programming and support needs. Once completed and submitted with all pertinent information, the request is forwarded to the SEVR coordinator for review and approval. MATSG-21’s SEVR coordinator will contact event organizers to discuss further details and the level of support able to be provided. To contact the SEVR staff with questions regarding the process for requesting support, please refer to the contact information on our sidebar.

To request support for your event, please complete the electronic SEVR worksheet form by following the link provided below. The electronic form should be filled out as thoroughly as possible. Please ensure that you receive a confirmation page stating that you have successfully submitted your request for MATSG-21 support. Your request should be for the month following this deadline (i.e. A submitted request for an event on 12 October should be submitted NLT 12:00pm on the second Tuesday of September). Your request will be processed by our SEVR Board as soon as possible and we will contact you regarding the support we will have available for your event.

DD Form 2536

In general, MATSG-21 will not authorize support for events that fall into the following categories:

  2. Events that support, endorse, promote, or sponsor any individual, civilian enterprise, religious movement, organization, or political campaign.

  3. Events that exclude any individual of the public based on race, creed, color, sex, or national origin.

  4. Events that are clearly designed for commercial benefit.

  5. Events that utilize Marine Corps personnel for any of the following activities:

    • Ushering

    • Bag handling

    • Guarding/Security

    • Escorting individuals at events

    • As messengers

    • Attending at parking lots

    • In any similar capacity at events off military installations

    • In any demeaning or inappropriate capacity
