Sergeant Major, School of Infantry-West
Sergeant Major Damian G. Rodriguez

Sergeant Major Rodriguez was born in Douglas, Arizona and enlisted in the Marine Corps on 10 June 1997.  He reported to Recruit Training aboard MCRD San Diego, California and upon graduation from Recruit Training, he reported to Marine Combat Training, Camp Pendleton, California.  Following Marine Combat Training, he attended Field Radio Operators Course, Twentynine Palms, California, where he received the MOS 2531.  In November 1997, Private Rodriguez received orders to 1st Battalion 8th Marines, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.  In November 1998, Private First Class Rodriguez deployed to Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a Line Company Radio Operator for Charlie Company and was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.  In October 2000, Corporal Rodriguez deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, Battalion Landing Team 1/8 to the Mediterranean Sea where he supported exercises in Spain, Africa, and Operation Joint Task Force Falcon in Kosovo, Croatia, and the Adriatic Sea.

In June 2001, Corporal Rodriguez received orders to Marine Air Control Squadron I, Yuma, Arizona where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as Assistant Radio Chief.  While assigned to Marine Air Control Squadron 1, Sergeant Rodriguez deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In September 2004, he deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom Il.  In October 2005, Sergeant Rodriguez requested and received orders to Drill Instructor School, Marine Corps Recruit Training Depot, San Diego, California, Class 1-06.  Upon completion of Drill Instructor School, Sergeant Rodriguez was assigned to Delta Company, where he completed four cycles as a Drill Instructor and three cycles as a Senior Drill Instructor.  In February 2008, Staff Sergeant Rodriguez was selected to serve as part of the Instructor Staff at Drill Instructor School.

Staff Sergeant Rodriguez received orders in February 2009 to Marine Wing Support Squadron 371, Yuma, Arizona where he served as Radio Chief, Communications Chief, and Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company.  Staff Sergeant Rodriguez was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in November 2010.  In September 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Rodriguez deployed to
Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  In June 2013 Gunnery Sergeant Rodriguez received orders to 3rd Battalion 8th Marines where he served as Radio Chief, Communications Chief, Company Gunnery Sergeant, and Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company.  In February 2014, Gunnery Sergeant Rodriguez deployed to Romania in support of Black Sea Rotational Force 14.2 and in August 2015 for support of Black Sea Rotational Force 15.2.  In March 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Rodriguez was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 7, Twentynine Palms, California where he served as Company First Sergeant for Engineer Services Company, Transportation Services Company, and Headquarters and Service Company.

In August 2018, First Sergeant Rodriguez received orders to 2d Radio Battalion where he served as MAGTF Support Company First Sergeant until March 2020 when he was promoted to his current rank.  Sergeant Major Rodriguez was transferred and served as the Marine Combat Training Battalion-East Sergeant Major from April 2020 to November 2021.  He received orders to Recruiting Duty and served as the Recruiting Station Sergeant Major for Recruiting Station Columbia until January 2024.  Sergeant Major Rodriguez assumed his current duties as the School of Infantry-West Sergeant Major in January 2024.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.  Sergeant Major Rodriguez holds a Bachelor's of Science in Leadership, and a Master's of Science in Homeland Security.  He is married to the former Cynthia Peraza of Douglas, Arizona. They have three children, Nevaeh, Savanna, and Damian.
