Master Gunnery Sergeant Willy R. Pascua Jr. was born on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, and was raised in California. Willy R. Pascua Jr. graduated from High School, completed Marine Corps Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, and Marine Combat Training, Camp Pendleton, CA. in 2000. Following boot camp and MCT, he completed a 64-week Modern Standard Arabic Course as a Linguist from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and earned an Associate’s Degree in Language Studies.
Following further training through the Cryptologic Linguist pipeline, he was assigned to Company D, Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion, National Security Agency – Georgia, Ft. Gordon, GA., as a Signals Intelligence Operator and provided direct cryptologic support to forward deployed units during Operation Iraqi Freedom I. After completion of the Navy-Marine Corps Analysis & Reporting Course at Goodfellow Air Force Base, TX, he deployed with 1st Radio Battalion as Signals Support Team Leader in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. During this period, he took part in Operation Vigilant Resolve and the intelligence planning of Operation Phantom Fury (Al Fajr).
After returning to DLIFLC, Presidio of Monterey, CA, for the Advanced Language Course, he was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion in 2006 upon the decommissioning of 1st Force Reconnaissance Company. While serving at Marine Force Special Operations Command, Master Gunnery Sergeant Pascua has deployed with Marine Special Operations Company C, Marine Special Operations Task Force 81, Marine Special Operations Company B, and Marine Special Operations Team 8333, in support of, various joint operational and contingency operations, to include multiple phases of Operation Enduring Freedom and OEF-Philippines.
Throughout his assignment at MARFORSOC Master Gunnery Sergeant Pascua has served as Foreign Security Force Advisor, Intelligence Operator, Intelligence Team Chief, Special Operations Task Force SIGINT Chief, Company SIGINT Chief, Marine Special Operations Team Intelligence Chief, Intelligence Company Training Chief, Intelligence Company Gunnery Sergeant and Senior Enlisted Advisor of Marine Special Operations Intelligence Company, Marine Special Operations Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA. He is a plank holder of 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Marine Special Operations Support Group – Detachment West, and 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion.
After serving in the Marine Corps Operational Forces, Master Gunnery Sergeant Pascua was selected and served as the 26XX Occupational Field Enlisted Assignment Monitor at MMEA, HQMC, MCB Quantico, VA.
Master Gunnery Sergeant Pascua is a graduate of all requisite Marine Corps Professional Military Educations courses, Marine Corps Martial Arts Black Belt course, Army Air Assault School, Multi-Mission Parachute Course, Survival Evasion Resistance Escape courses, various SOF tactical skills courses, and several Advanced Signals Intelligence and Multi-Discipline Intelligence Operator courses. Master Gunnery Sergeant Pascua remains proficient in Modern Standard Arabic, Iraqi Dialect, Levantine Dialect, and Pashto. He also maintains civilian certifications and licenses aligned to his trade skills, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, is a student in the Rossier Graduate School of Education at the University of Southern California, and will be starting a Masters of International Studies at American University.
Having served in a variety of theaters and contingency operations with multiple combat tours, Master Gunnery Sergeant Pascua’s awards, badges, devices and decorations are consistent with those of most
Marines who have had the honor to serve the United States over a significant period of time, and the good fortune to return home safely.
Master Gunnery Sergeant Pascua is currently serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader for the Marine Corps Detachment, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, Presidio of Monterey, CA.
