Lieutenant Colonel Erik C Quist Combat instructor battalion Commanding Officer

Lieutenant Colonel Quist graduated from Colby College in 1999 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant via the Officer's Candidate Course in December 2002.  He graduated The Basic School (TBS) and the Infantry Officers' Course in October 2003, and was assigned to Company G, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. 


While with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, he deployed as a rifle platoon commander in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) to Ramadi, Iraq in February 2004.  In April 2005, he deployed with Battalion Landing Team (BLT) 2/4 as a mobile assault platoon commander to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).  Finally, in September 2006, he deployed in support of OIF to Barwanah, Iraq as the Assistant Operations Officer and Training Officer for BLT 2/4 as part of the 15th MEU. 


Upon his return from deployment, Lieutenant Colonel Quist reported to TBS in July 2007.  During his three year tour he was the primary instructor for the Squad Tactics Package, the Staff Platoon Commander for Companies F and C, and the Command Section Head in the Warfighting Department. 


From July 2010 to April 2011, Lieutenant Colonel Quist attended the Expeditionary Warfare School.  After his graduation, he took command of Company C, 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, and deployed with the battalion to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in July 2011. 


While deployed, Lieutenant Colonel Quist was evacuated to the Wounded Warrior Battalion – East Detachment at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, where he remained a Marine in Care until August 2017.  During this time, he was promoted to major and he performed Temporary Additional Duty as the Joint Officer Matters Officer at Manpower Management Officer Assignments.  He then attended the Marine Corps Command and Staff College where he graduated with distinction.  Following his graduation, he served as the Aide-De-Camp to the Deputy Commandant for Combat Development and Integration.


Following the Commandant of the Marine Corps’ approval of his request to remain on active duty, Lieutenant Colonel Quist requested assignment to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment to be the Battalion Executive Officer.  He reported to 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment in August 2017 and deployed to the Black Sea Rotational Force / Marine Rotational Force Europe 18.1.  Upon the battalion’s return from deployment, he was assigned as the Headquarters Battalion Executive Officer at Second Marine Division.


In July 2019, Lieutenant Colonel Quist reported to Combat Development and Integration and served as the Operations Officer for the Marine Corps Integration Division, Capabilities Development Directorate.


On 12 June 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Quist assumed command of Combat Instructor Battalion. 


His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal with four gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon with gold star.
