SERGEANT MAJOR RUSSELL D. BOLEY

BATTALION SERGEANT MAJOR, HEADQUARTERS AND SUPPORT BATTALION

Sergeant Major Boley is a native of Monroe, Louisiana. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on June 26, 1999, where he attended boot camp at MCRD San Diego. Private First Class Boley attended Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry-West (SOI-West) in Camp Pendleton, California. Upon graduating MCT, PFC Boley later attended his Marine Occupational School (MOS) in Fort Leonardwood, Missouri where he earned the Military Occupational Specialty of 3531 (Motor Transport Operator) and subsequently was assigned to 3D Marine Division, Combat Assault Battalion, Okinawa, Japan. While assigned to Combat Assault Battalion, LCpl Boley participated in numerous exercises in the Pacific area of operation.

In January 2001, LCpl Boley received orders to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273 in Beaufort, South Carolina where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal in July 2001. While assigned to MWSS-273, Cpl Boley deployed several times in support of Combined Arms Exercises in 29 Palms, California. While assigned to MWSS-273, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 2002. Upon completion of this assignment, Sergeant Boley was reassigned to MWSS-172 in Okinawa, Japan where he served as the Medium Section Platoon Leader and Platoon Sergeant for Motor Transportation Operations Company.

In October 2003, Sergeant Boley was selected to attend Marine Corps Embassy Security Guard School as a watch stander. After graduating MSG School, he was assigned to American Embassy Vienna, Austria; Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; and Chisinau, Moldova where he served as the Assistant Detachment Commander and was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in July 2005. After completing his tour with Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, SSgt Boley was reassigned as an instructor at Marine Corps Combat Service and Support School, Logistics Operations School (LOS) Camp Johnson, North Carolina. During his tour at LOS, he also served as the S-3 Training Chief and Headquarter Company, Company Gunnery Sergeant.

In March 2008, Staff Sergeant Boley was selected and returned to Marine Corps Embassy Security Group (MCESG) as a Detachment Commander, upon graduating MSG School, SSgt Boley was assigned as the Detachment Commander of American Embassy Sana’a, Yemen and Lisbon, Portugal where he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in July 2009. In March 2010, GySgt Boley was selected to become a Marine Security Guard Instructor/Advisor at Marine Corps Embassy Security Group in Quantico, Virginia.

In March 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Boley received orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 6, Camp Lejeune, N.C. where he served as the Senior Watch Officer and Future Operations Chief deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon returning from Afghanistan, Gunnery Sergeant Boley was selected to become the Director for the 2d Marine Logistics Group’s Corporal Leadership Course. In 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Boley retuned to Combat Logistics Battalion 6, where he deployed to Afghanistan as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Transportation and Support Company.

In 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Boley was select and promoted to First Sergeant where he served as the Alpha Company, Company First Sergeant at 3d Law Enforcement Battalion. In June 2016, First Sergeant Boley was selected to attend the U.S. Army Sergeant’s Major Academy (USASMA) in Ft. Bliss, Texas. Upon graduating USASMA in June 2017, First Sergeant Boley was assigned to the School of Infantry-East (SOI-E), Infantry Training Battalion (ITB), Delta Company as the Company First Sergeant. In June 2018, Sergeant Major Boley was promoted to his current rank. Sergeant Major Boley has served as the Battalion Sergeant Major of 2d Battalion, 2d Marines, he transferred to his current assignment as the Battalion Sergeant Major, Headquarters and Support Battalion, School of Infantry-East in May 2020.

Sergeant Major Boley’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of forth award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, and the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.

Sergeant Major Boley and his wife Irene have one child, Amoria Irene Boley (5), and a dog Rocko Boley (11).
