Biography
Commanding Officer, Headquarters & Support Battalion
Lieutenant Colonel James M. Woulfe

Lieutenant Colonel James M. Woulfe was born in Suffern, New York and attended high school in Pine Bush, New York.  He graduated from Western New England College in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.  Following completion of The Platoon Leaders Course, The Basic School (TBS), and the Basic Communications Officer Course in 2003, he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of 0602, Communications Officer.
 
In 2003, Second Lieutenant Woulfe reported to 2d Marine Regiment, 2d Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, NC where he served as the S-6A and Communications Platoon Commander.  He later moved to 3d Battalion, 2d Marine Regiment to serve as the battalion’s S-6 Officer where he deployed to Al Qa’im, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 04-06.

In 2006, Captain Woulfe received orders to TBS in Quantico, VA where he served as the Instructor Battalion S-6 and Communications Platoon Commander, a Warfighting Instructor, and a Staff Platoon Commander for both Echo and India Companies.  At the conclusion of this tour, Captain Woulfe attended resident Professional Military Education (PME) at Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS).

After completing EWS and the Advanced Communications Officer Course in 2010, Captain Woulfe received orders to 3d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) to serve as the G-6 Operations Officer.  In 2012, Captain Woulfe deployed with 3d MAW (FWD) to Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan in support as Operation Enduring Freedom where he served as the Wing’s Deputy AC/S G-6 and Operations Officer. 

In 2013 Major Woulfe reported to United States Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command located at Fort Meade, MD.  There he served as the G-53 Future Plans Branch Head, where he led both the Offensive and Defensive Cyberspace Operations Planning Teams.  In 2016, Major Woulfe again attended resident PME at Marine Corps University’s Command and Staff College.

After completing Command and Staff College, Major Woulfe reported to 9th Communication Battalion to serve as the Executive Officer from July of 2017 through August of 2018.  In August of 2018, Major Woulfe was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and rotated to I Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group to serve as the Executive Officer.

In July of 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Woulfe received orders to 1st Marine Logistics Group (MLG) to serve as the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-6.  While assigned to 1st MLG, he was selected for command and reported to the School of Infantry–West in June of 2021 to serve as the Commanding Officer of Headquarters and Support Battalion.

His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (gold star in lieu of third award), Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
