Captain Matthew D. George Director Combat Instructor School

In February of 2010, Captain George was admitted to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship Program. After graduating from high school, Captain George reported to the University of Mississippi for undergraduate studies and Midshipman Indoctrination Training. In May of 2014, Captain George was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in homeland security and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant.   

Captain George reported to The Basic School in March of 2015 and graduated in September. While at The Basic School Captain George developed and executed a staff ride to the National Military Park at Fredericksburg, Virginia, and served as the lead planner for Charlie Company’s professional military education trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.    

Captain George reported to the Infantry Officer’s Course in January of 2016 and graduated in March. Upon Completion of Infantry Officer’s Course, Captain George was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment.

Captain George reported to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines in April of 2016 and was assigned as Platoon Commander, 1st Platoon, Company L. While serving as a platoon commander, Captain George deployed from March to September of 2017, in support of the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Operation Inherent Resolve in the Fifth Fleet area of operations. During this deployment and associated pre-deployment training program, Captain George attended and graduated from Foreign Weapons Instructor Course and was certified in non-lethal weapons application and techniques.

Immediately following deployment, Captain George was Re-deployed with Company L, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines to support hurricane relief operations in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in September of 2017. Captain George and Company L participated in civil affairs operations and debris removal before returning to Camp Lejeune in October.    

Upon return from Puerto Rico, Captain George was reassigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, where he served as a Future Plans Officer and Assistant Operations Officer within the Operations Section. Captain George served as the Battalion Safety Officer during Integrated Training Exercise 5-18, and led the planning and development of three major training packages to include amphibious operations, foreign humanitarian assistance, and a non-combatant evacuation exercise.

In January of 2019, Captain George received orders to the School of Infantry- East, were he was assigned as the Company M Commander, Headquarters and Support Battalion, tasked with conducting reception, staging, and onward movement/integration (RSO&I) for all students reporting for training to Infantry Training Battalion and Marine Combat Training Battalion. In October of 2019, Captain George was assigned as Director, Marine Combat Instructor School.    

Captain George’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Captain George is a native of both Asheville, NC and Chattanooga, TN where he enjoys spending family time with his Mother, Zoe Davis, his Father, Lloyd George, and his younger brother and sister, Christopher and Alexandria George.
