Sergeant Major Imperial enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1997, and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. Following recruit training, Private First Class (PFC) Imperial attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina, and Assault Amphibian Vehicle (AAV) Crewman School at Camp Pendleton, California where he earned the military occupational specialty 1833.
In July 1998, PFC Imperial reported to Company A, 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion. PFC Imperial served as an AAV crewman and crew chief, and was promoted to Lance Corporal in July of 1998. In June of 1999 Lance Corporal Imperial was selected as the 1st Marine Division Marine of the Quarter and meritoriously promoted to the rank of corporal. Corporal Imperial served as the company training NCO for Company A, and deployed to Okinawa under the unit deployment program in 2000. Corporal Imperial was promoted to Sergeant in February of 2001 and deployed again to Okinawa in 2002 as an AAV command and control section leader while attached to Battalion Landing Team 3rd Battalion 5th Marines as part of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In July 2002, Sergeant Imperial transferred to Combat Service Support Company, Instructor Battalion, The Basic School and served as an AAV section leader and the platoon operations chief. Sergeant Imperial was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in November 2004.
In August 2005, Staff Sergeant Imperial was transferred to Company C, 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion and served as an AAV section leader and platoon sergeant. During his time in Company C, Staff Sergeant Imperial deployed to Iraq two times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In October 2008, Staff Sergeant Imperial attended Basic Recruiter’s School. Upon completion of recruiter’s school Staff Sergeant Imperial transferred to Recruiting Station Nashville, Recruiting Sub-Station (RSS) Cookeville, Tennessee and served as a canvassing recruiter. Staff Sergeant Imperial was selected to serve as the Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of RSS Cookeville and RSS Rivergate, Tennessee. Staff Sergeant Imperial was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in August 2009.
In March 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Imperial was transferred to Company D, 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion where he served as platoon sergeant and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Gunnery Sergeant Imperial was frocked to the rank of First Sergeant in January 2014, and transferred to Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines where he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In April 2015, First Sergeant Imperial was transferred to Company A, 4th Assault Amphibian Battalion to serve as the Inspector-Instructor First Sergeant, and was subsequently selected to the rank of Sergeant Major in November 2017.
In May 2018, Sergeant Major assumed the post as the Squadron Sergeant Major of the Air Control Training Squadron, Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School and is currently serving in that billet.
