Lieutenant Colonel Damon M. Torres is a native of Sante Fe, Texas and graduated from the Citadel in 1999 with a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Following graduation, he attended Officer Candidate School in the fall of 1999 and was commissioned on 10 December. LtCol Torres attended The Basic School at Quantico, VA with Bravo Company and continued MOS training at the Infantry Officers Course.
He reported to 2d Battalion, 6th Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC and held the billets of infantry platoon commander and executive officer for Echo Company. During this time with Echo Company, he deployed with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit in 2002 as well as Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.
Following deployment, LtCol Torres received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot at Parris Island, SC. While at Parris Island, LtCol Torres had the responsibilities of series commander for Echo Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. He then transitioned to executive officer and company commander for Recruit Processing Company, Support Battalion. At the end of the three year tour, LtCol Torres attended the Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA. Upon graduation, he reported to 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines at Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. As assistant operations officer, he deployed to Al-Karma Iraq as the liaison officer for the Al Anbar Provisional Security Forces in 2007. As Kilo company commander, he conducted personnel recovery missions in Al Anbar in 2009.
From 2010 to 2012, LtCol Torres reported for duties as company commander for Alpha Company, Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (FAST), Marine Corps Security Force Regiment at Norfolk, VA. In 2013, he received orders as the battalion executive officer for 1st Battalion, 8th Marines at Camp Lejeune, NC. He deployed to Okinawa in 2014 as part of the Unit Deployment Program, and was given the responsibilities as Commander of Troops for the Landing Force of Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training aboard the USS ASHLAND. Returning from deployment, LtCol Torres reported to 8th Marines as the assistant operations officer.
In 2015, LtCol Torres deployed to the Joint Special Operations Task Force in Bahrain as the Theater Special Operations Command Liaison Officer for the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit. Returning from deployment, LtCol Torres and his family received orders to be stationed overseas on Okinawa, Japan in 2016. During this time, LtCol Torres served at the Operations Officer for 4th Marines, 3rd Division. In August of 2017, LtCol Torres was selected for command at the Marine Combat Training Battalion, School of Infantry-East, where he presently serves.
