During a soil classification practical application on July 7, 2016 Second Lieutenants Jacob Cybulski (left), Garret Cheung (middle), and Czech Republic First Lieutenant Jakub Kominek (right); students attached to Combat Engineer Officer course 7-16 (CEO 7-16); prepare to perform a Grit Field Test. A Grit Field Test is a test where combat engineers place a pinch of soil between their teeth and bite to classify the soil. Soil classification is used to determine the potential behavior of soil under traffic or foundation loads.
