Charleston is part of the Oceania Maritime Security Initiative (OMSI), a Secretary of Defense program leveraging Department of Defense assets transiting the region to increase the Coast Guard's maritime domain awareness, ultimately supporting its maritime law enforcement operation in Oceania.
