Master Gunnery Sergeant Jeffrey W. Ramsey

Master Gunnery Sergeant Ramsey enlisted into the Marine Corps September 5th 1989. After recruit training in Parris Island, SC Pvt Ramsey attended training aboard NAS Millington, TN to become an aviation structural mechanic. Upon completion PFC Ramsey reported to VMGRT-253 to attend the FREST aboard MCAS Cherry Point to further his training as a structural mechanic on KC-130’s.

LCpl Ramsey’s first duty station was with VMGR-152 “Sumos”, MCAS Futenma on Okinawa, JP from September 1990 through September 1991 working on KC-130 F & R models. LCpl Ramsey returned stateside and reported to NAS Glenview, Il for duty as a structural mechanic on KC-130 T’s with VMGR-234 “Bears”. Due to the BRAC, Cpl Ramsey moved along with the squadron to their new location aboard the “old” Carswell AFB (NAS Ft Worth JRB) and continued with the unit until July of 1995.

Cpl Ramsey reported to Drill Instructor School class 4-95 aboard MCRD San Diego, CA where he pushed seven platoons as a Sergeant of Marines during his two-year tour; working as a Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor with Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion.

Sergeant Ramsey, in October 1997, reported to VMGR-352 “Raiders” and worked as the Airframes Night Crew NCOIC as well as the Night Crew Maintenance Controller. Again, due to BRAC, SSgt Ramsey transitioned to MCAS Miramar with the Raiders. During this time, SSgt Ramsey deployed to and participated in Operation Northern Watch and Bright Star 2001.

June 2002 SSgt Ramsey once again executed orders overseas to VMGR-152 “Sumos”. There he was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in November 2002 and took over as the Quality Assurance SNCOIC.

June 2003 GySgt Ramsey reported to H&HS Cherry Point for duty as the Visiting Aircraft Line SNCOIC. Subsequently, in late fall 2004; GySgt Ramsey took over the Corporals Leadership Course for a period of 18 months before reporting for duty as the Airframes Chief for VMGR-252 “Otis”. During this time GySgt Ramsey deployed as the 24th MEU det SNCOIC to Cyprus in support of ongoing evacuations in Israel. Upon return, GySgt Ramsey took over as the Maintenance Control SNCOIC. GySgt Ramsey deployed to Iraq in August 2007 as the Squadron Maintenance Chief for the combined VMGR-252/352 Det. While in Iraq he was selected for and promoted to Master Sergeant in February 2008.

Upon return from Iraq, MSgt Ramsey received orders to VMGR-452 “Yankees” in Newburg, NY in June 2008. MSgt Ramsey was the Maintenance Control Chief for the duration of his tour. While with the Yankees, MSgt Ramsey attended the Navy Senior Enlisted Academy in Rhode Island.

In July of 2010, MSgt Ramsey again executed PCS orders to Okinawa, JP for duty as the Maintenance Control Chief and Maintenance Chief for HMM-265 “Dragons” During this time MSgt Ramsey supported numerous exercises and Humanitarian operations to include Operation Tomadachi on mainland Japan and typhoon assistance while in the Philippians. MSgt Ramsey, with the Dragons, deployed as the 31st MEU Maintenance Chief. While afloat, MSgt Ramsey was selected for Master Gunnery Sergeant and was frocked in February 2012 while attached to the 31st MEU.

July 2012 Master Gunnery Sergeant Ramsey reported to VMM-365 “Blue Knights” as the Squadron Maintenance Chief. During this time SNM deployed with the Blue Knights to Moron, SP in support of the first iteration of the Special MAGTF- Crisis Response. SNM served as Aviation Combat Element Senior Enlisted Advisor as well as the SEA to the 22nd MEU Commanding Officer. Upon return Master Gunnery Sergeant Ramsey executed PCA orders to VMMT-204 “Raptors” as the Squadron Maintenance Chief and eventually as the SEA to the VMMT-204 Commanding Officer.

SNM then executed PCA orders to MALS-26 “Patriots”, assuming the duties as the Squadron and MAG-26 Maintenance Chief. Master Gunnery Sergeant Ramsey remained in those positions until he assumed his current role as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the MATSG-23 Commanding Officer August 2016.

Master Gunnery Sergeants personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one silver star and two gold stars.
