Capt Nathan R. Nofziger graduated from West Albany High School in 1999 and enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in July of the same year. Capt Nofziger attended boot camp at Marine Corp Recruit Depot San Diego, California and graduated from 1st Recruit Training Battalion in October of 1999.
He was then transferred to Camp Pendleton, California where he was assigned to the School of Infantry, Marine Combat Training (MCT). Upon completion of MCT, Capt Nofziger was transferred to Naval Air Station Pensacola for MOS training, then transferred to Marine Corp Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina for additional training where he received the MOS of 6413, Navigational Aids Technician. Upon receiving his MOS, Capt Nofziger was subsequently stationed at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina. He later deployed aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge as a member of Task Force Tarawa in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)/ Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF).
In January 2004, he attended Drill Instructor School where he graduated as honor graduate and was subsequently assigned to Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion. Capt Nofziger trained seven platoons as a Drill Instructor, two as a Senior Drill Instructor and served as an Academic Instructor during his tour.
While serving on Drill Instructor, Capt Nofziger applied for and was accepted to the Meritorious Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP). He attended Oregon State University where he received a double degree with a bachelor of science in mathematics and a bachelor of science in education with a minor in naval science. Upon graduation Capt Nofziger attended The Basic School within Golf Company and received the MOS 0204, Counterintelligence/Human Source Intelligence Officer.
In August 2012, Capt Nofziger transferred to 2d Intelligence Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He supported OEF from September 2012 through May 2013 within the G2X Direct Support Intelligence Center where he served as both the Human Asset Validation Operation Cell OIC and as the Reports and Source Management OIC. After serving in a reach back capability in support of Regional Command (South-West)(RC(SW)), Capt Nofziger deployed as the CI/HUMINT Detachment OIC in direct support of 1st Battalion 9th Marines in Garm Ser District, Helmand Province, Afghanistan. Upon his return, he was assigned as the executive office for Golf Company and subsequently Battlespace Surveillance Company, 2d Intelligence Battalion where he also assumed the additional roles as the GEOINT Platoon Commander and CI/HUMINT Platoon Commander.
Capt Nofziger is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of Marine Detachment Fort Belvoir under the Marine Corps Intelligence Schools, Training Command.
Capt Nofziger’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.
