Colonel C. Wade Hasle, USMC is a native of Virginia and enlisted in the Marine Reserves in August 1986. He reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC on 7 July 1987 where he graduated as the Platoon Honorman and Platoon High Shooter. Immediately after Boot Camp, Private First Class Hasle attended Supply Administration and Operations Specialist Training at Marine Corps Service Support Schools Camp Johnson, NC. Upon completion of training with honors, he joined Headquarters and Maintenance Squadron 41 Detachment A at Andrews Air Force Base, MD where he served for three years and was promoted to Lance Corporal and Corporal.
Accepted into the Platoon Leaders Class (PLC), he attended PLC Junior, Officer Candidates School (OCS), Quantico, VA in the summer of 1989 while also attending school at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. During November 1990, Corporal Hasle transferred to B Company, 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, Roanoke, Virginia in order to join the unit prior to activation for Operation DESERT SHIELD / DESERT STORM. He served as supply chief, squad leader, and M-60 machine gunner with Headquarters Platoon throughout the five month deployment to Southwest Asia.
After deactivation, he returned to his studies and reentered PLC in the summer of 1992 and completed PLC Senior. Remaining with B Company, he was promoted to Sergeant and assumed the duties of Company Police Sergeant until his graduation from college and commission as a Second Lieutenant in May 1993.
Second Lieutenant Hasle completed The Basic School, Quantico, VA with honors in June 1994 and subsequently reported to Flight School where he was promoted to First Lieutenant and designated a Naval Aviator in May 1996. Further training as an AH-1W SuperCobra pilot followed at Marine Helicopter Training Squadron 303, Camp Pendleton, CA until October 1996.
First Lieutenant Hasle subsequently served in to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 167 for five years. During this tour, he was promoted to Captain in August 1997, made two Landing Force Sixth Fleet deployments with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron (Reinforced) 266 and also attended the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course. During this period he served in various billets in the Logistics, Maintenance, Operations, and Safety Departments.
In January 2002, Captain Hasle reported to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 9, Detachment Patuxent River, MD where he was promoted to Major in November 2002. As an Operational Test Director, he worked with the H-1 Upgrades Program on the AH-1Z and UH-1Y aircraft during their engineering and manufacturing development phase and amassed over 90 hours in the AH-1Z.
Major Hasle returned to the Fleet in February 2005 and assumed the billet of Assistant Operations Officer (Future Plans) for Marine Aircraft Group-39 (MAG-39), Camp Pendleton, CA. By December 2005, Major Hasle reported to HMLA-169 where he served two tours in Operation IRAQI FREEDOM as the Future Operations Officer, Operations Officer, Detachment Officer in Charge, and Executive Officer. Frocked to Lieutenant Colonel in June 2008, he was appointed as the Executive Officer, OCS, Quantico, VA where he served from June 2008 to May 2010.
Lieutenant Colonel Hasle returned to MAG-39 in June 2010 and assumed command of HMLA-367 that following December. Upon conclusion of command in June 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Hasle was assigned as a student to the Joint Advanced Warfighting School in Norfolk, VA. Following a successful academic year he received orders to the Joint Staff J7 Deployable Training Division in Suffolk, VA for service as an observer/trainer and division operations officer.
Colonel Hasle’s personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Combat “V”, 1 Gold numeral, and 9 Bronze numerals, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Colonel Hasle is also a recipient of the Marine Corps Aviation Association 2007 Alfred A. Cunningham Aviator of the Year Award.
