Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was born in Newport News Virginia. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on January 1, 2001 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island on March 31, 2001. Following recruit training; Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina in April 2001. In May 2001, he transferred to his military occupational specialty (MOS) school at Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he received the MOS of 0811, Field Artillery Cannoneer.
Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn received orders for Fox Battery 2d Battalion 10th Marines. While in Fox Battery, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was promoted to Lance Corporal before deploying with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. While deployed, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was promoted to Corporal and took part in peace keeping operations in Kosovo, Joint Training Missions in United Arab Emirates, Djibouti, and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF). Upon returning from OIF, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was selected to be part of a joint testing team for the M777LW Howitzer at Piccatiney Arsenal, New Jersey from October 2003 to November 2003.
In February 2004, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was assigned to Sierra Battery, 5th Battalion 10th Marines as a Howitzer Section Chief. In September 2004, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was promoted to Sergeant and deployed as a squad leader to OIF. Upon return, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was transferred to Marine Corps Security Forces Training Company for duty as a Security Forces Weapons and Tactics Instructor.
In September of 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn received orders to 3d Battalion 10th Marines. In November 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was promoted to Staff Sergeant. Upon the Battalion’s return from Iraq, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was assigned to Kilo Battery where he assumed the duties of Senior Section Chief.
In August 2008, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn assumed the duties of Guns Platoon Sergeant. In October 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn deployed to Afghanistan as the 1st Platoon Sergeant for Kilo Battery. Gunnery Sergeant graduated the Marine Corps Canon Crewman Advanced Course in February 2011 and began serving as the Guns Platoon Sergeant for the Battery’s deployment to Okinawa. In January 2012, he assumed the duties as the Headquarters Battery Gunnery Sergeant.
In April of 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn received orders to Camp Geiger, North Carolina for duty as a Marine Combat Instructor. In October of 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was promoted to his current rank meritoriously. During his tenure as a Combat Instructor, Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn was recognized as the Marine Corps Combat Instructor of the Year for FY13. He currently serves as a Combat Instructor Trainer at Combat Instructor School, School of Infantry-East.
Gunnery Sergeant Wrenn’s personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 Gold Stars in lieu of third award, and Combat Action Ribbon.
