Sergeant Major Hogancamp enlisted in the Marine Corps in December of 1991 and completed recruit training with 3
rd BN, Kilo Company, MCRD Parris Island, SC. Following recruit training Private Hogancamp attended Marine Combat Training and the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, NC. Upon completion, he was assigned his MOS of 0311.
Private First Class Hogancamp reported to the Basic Security Guard School (BSG) in Chesapeake, VA during March of 1992 and was assigned the additional MOS of Basic Security Guard. Private First Class Hogancamp was assigned to Marine Corps Security Force Battalion, Charleston, SC.
Meritoriously promoted to the rank of Corporal in 1994, Corporal Hogancamp transferred to 2d Bn, 9th Marines which was designated as 2d Bn, 4th Marines in Camp Pendleton, CA. There he served as an Operations NCO and Fire Team Leader. When promoted to Sergeant in 1995 he served as a Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant for 1st Platoon, Echo Company.
Sergeant Hogancamp transferred to MCRD San Diego, CA in March 1998 and served as a Junior Drill Instructor for 3d BN, India Company. He was meritoriously promoted to Staff Sergeant in 2000 and served as a Senior Drill Instructor.
Staff Sergeant Hogancamp transferred to 3rd Bn, 2d Marines at Camp Lejuene, NC in 2001 where he serve as a Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant for India Company. Staff Sergeant Hogancamp was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in February 2004.
Gunnery Sergeant Hogancamp then transferred to the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in 2005 and served as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor for both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University.
Gunnery Sergeant Hogancamp was promoted to First Sergeant in November 2007 and reported to 2d Marine Logistics Group, 2d Supply Battalion, where he served as 1stSgt for Headquarters and Service Company, Supply Company and Combat Logistics Regiment 25, Headquarters Company. 1stSgt Hogancamp transferred in June 2010 to Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, Norfolk, VA where he served as the Headquarters and Service Company 1stSgt.
Sergeant Major Hogancamp was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major and reported to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines in June of 2012 and deployed with Battalion Landing Team 1/6, 22 Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Sergeant Major Hogancamp assumed his current duties with Headquarters and Support Bn, SOI-E on December 10 2014.
Sergeant Major Hogancamp’s personal decorations include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Gold Star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star in lieu of second award with Combat “V” distinguishing device, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four Gold Stars in lieu of fifth award and the Combat Action Ribbon.
