Sergeant Major, Marine Corps Engineer School
Sergeant Major Andrew Marshall

Sergeant Major Marshall enlisted in the Marine Corps in September of 1987 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina during December 1987.  Following recruit training he attended School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California. Upon completion he was assigned the MOS of Basic Rifleman; he was also promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.

 

SgtMaj Marshall reported to Marine Corps Security Forces School in Chesapeake, Virginia, in March 1988 as a student. In April of 1988 he was assigned to Marine Security Forces Company, Naval Weapons Station Earle.  While there he served as a guard and Corporal of the Guard.  He was promoted to Corporal, meritoriously, in April of 1989.

 

SgtMaj Marshall was transferred to 3d Battalion, 3d Marines in August of 1989.  He was immediately deployed to South West Asia and participated in combat operations in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During his time in Hawaii he served in billets ranging from Fire Team Leader to Platoon Sergeant and was promoted to Sergeant in December 1993.

 

SgtMaj Marshall was then transferred to Marine Corps Security Force Company Kings Bay Georgia, in April of 1993.  While there he served in billets as Sergeant of the Guard, and Commander of the Guard at the Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic.

 

He was transferred to 1st Battalion, 2d Marines in April of 1996. His Battalion deployed as the Battalion Landing Team for the 22nd Marine

Expeditionary Unit in 1996. While deployed he participated in Operations Guardian Retrieval in Zaire, Africa, and Nobel Obelisk in Sierra Leon.  He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in December of 1997.

 

SgtMaj Marshall deployed to South America with Marine Forces Unitas as a Platoon Sergeant in 1998.  Upon returning from Unitas he rejoined his battalion in time to deploy to Okinawa, Japan as part of the unit deployment program.

 

In October of 2000 SgtMaj Marshall reported to Drill Instructor School. Upon graduation he was assigned to Company L, 3d Recruit Training Battalion, where he held the billets of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor and Series Gunnery Sergeant. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in August of 2002.

 

In January of 2004 he reported to 3d Battalion 6th Marines.  He served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for H&S Company and India Company.  During this time he deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. While deployed, his company participated in several major offensive combat operations.

 

Frocked to First Sergeant on 17 May 2006, SgtMaj Marshall reported to Hotel Company MCT Battalion, SOI (E).

 

In May of 2008, SgtMaj Marshall reported to 3d Battalion 8th Marines and deployed to Afghanistan as the Company First Sergeant for India Company and later H&S Company.

 

Frocked to his present grade Sergeant Major Marshall reported to H&HS Squadron MCAS Beaufort on 26 April 2010 where he remained until February of 2013 when he reported 8th Communication Battalion.

 

In January 2015, SgtMaj Marshall reported to Marine Corps Engineer School.

 

Sergeant Major Marshall’s awards include the Purple Heart, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with V, 2 gold stars in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon with 2 gold stars.
