Captain Michael O. Enriquez enlisted in the Navy in June 1989. He attended boot camp, Hospital Corpsman “A” school, and Field Medical Service School, in San Diego, California.
His first assignment was in the Intensive Care Unit at the Naval Hospital San Diego, California. In August 1990, he deployed to Operation Desert Shield/Storm as a member of “I” Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines. He then transferred to Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia and served as a Laboratory Technician, Pharmacy Technician, and Medevac Coordinator. While in Diego Garcia, he earned the Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist designation. His follow-on assignment was as a student at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute, Pensacola, Florida where he successfully completed the Aerospace Medicine Technician and Aerospace Physiology Technician courses of instruction. He was subsequently transferred to the Aviation Physiology Training Department, Miramar, California, for duty as an Aviation Physiology Instructor. In 1993, he completed the Naval Aviation Water Survival Training Program course. He also attended the Naval Instructor Training course, culminating in 1998 when he was designated a Master Training Specialist. During this period he furthered his formal education, graduating “Cum Laude” in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Management from Southern Illinois University. He subsequently completed graduate studies at Central Michigan University, and was awarded a Master of Arts in Education Instruction in 1999.
In June 1999, he was accepted for the In-service Procurement Program and received his commission in the Medical Service Corps as a Lieutenant Junior Grade. Upon completion of Officer Indoctrination School he was assigned to Field Medical Service School, Camp Pendleton, California, as the Administrative/Personnel Officer. In March 2004, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom as the Deputy Surgeon for the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa. In April 2006, he transferred to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery where he served as the Executive Assistant, M5 Future Plans and Strategies; and as the first Intelligence Officer for Navy Medicine. In July 2007, he reported to the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda as the Special Assistant to the Commander, Casualty Affairs Officer. In August 2008, he reported to Combat Logistics Regiment-15 where he served as the Executive Officer. While there he earned his Fleet Marine Force Officer Warfare designation. In March 2010, he deployed as the Executive Officer, Combat Logistics Regiment-15 (Forward) in support of the International Security Assistance Force and Operation Enduring Freedom. After his return he was assigned as the Operations and Intelligence Officer for 1st Medical Battalion. In July 2011, he transferred to Navy Medicine Manpower Training & Education Command, Bethesda, MD where he assumed the duties as the Human Performance Department Head. Midway through his tour he was selected to serve as the Officer in Charge, Navy Medicine Education and Training Command (NMETC), Bethesda Detachment. In March 2014, he assumed the role as Director for Administration, NMETC. In July 2014, he transferred to Navy Medicine Professional Development Center as the Director for Officer Programs. In July 2016, he transferred to Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as the Executive Officer, Field Medical Training Battalion-West. In June 2018, he assumed Command of Field Medical Training Battalion-West.
CAPT Enriquez’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three gold stars), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three gold stars), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (three gold stars), the Combat Action Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal (two bronze stars), and eighteen other Service and Campaign medals and ribbons.
