Lieutenant Colonel Alex Miller
Marine Aviation Training Support Group - 21

Lieutenant Colonel Alex Miller, a native of Tipp City, OH was commissioned in June 1996 through the Platoon Leaders Class after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the Ohio State University.  After completing The Basic School in March 1997 he proceeded to NAS Pensacola as a flight student.

  In March, 1999, he was designated a Naval Aviator and was assigned to Marine Helicopter Training Squadron 302 for training in the CH-53E Super Stallion.  He was then assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 where he served as the Adjutant.  In the spring of 2001, Capt. Miller deployed with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 266, 24th MEU(SOC) where he served as the NATOPS officer.  In January 2002 he attended Aviation Safety Officer School, after which he served as the ASO/DoSS for HMH-461.  In early 2003 he again chopped to HMM-266 where he served as the CH-53E Pilot Training Officer, deploying with the “Fighting Griffins” and 22nd MEU(SOC) to Kandahar, Afghanistan. 

  Capt. Miller then reported for duty to the Air Force Institute of Technology for post graduate studies with the Special Education Program.  After receiving a Master of Science in Aeronautical Engineering in 2006 he was ordered to Fleet Readiness Center East, Cherry Point NC, where he served as the Engineering and Logistics Coordinator and Deputy Director of Operations.    

  In July, 2009, Maj. Miller reported to Marine Aircraft Group 29 and served as the Director of Safety and Standardization.  In January 2010 he returned to HMH-461 where he served as the Operations Officer and the Executive Officer.  He deployed with the “Ironhorse” to the Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2011.  After returning from OEF he was assigned to Marine Heavy Helicopter Training Squadron 302 where he served as the Executive Officer.   In the summer of 2012 he was ordered to Marine Operational Test and Evaluation Squadron 22 to serve as the Chief Operational Test Director.  In the summer of 2014 he was ordered to MATSG-21 where he currently serves as the Executive Officer and helicopter flight instructor.

   Lieutenant Colonel Miller’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal w/gold star, Air Medal with Strike/Flight numeral 6, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal w/gold star.
