First Sergeant Jason R. Batson enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 1996. Upon completion of recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he attended the School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, North Carolina and received the MOS of 0341 Mortarman.
In May 1998, Private First Class Batson reported to 1st Battalion 3d Marines, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty with 81’s Platoon, Weapons Company. While serving with 1st Battalion 3d Marines, he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal in September 1997 while deployed to Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program. Lance Corporal Batson was then meritoriously promoted to Corporal in September 1998. In October of 1999 Corporal Batson deployed once again with 1st Battalion 3d Marines to Okinawa as part of the Unit Deployment Program. While deployed, Corporal Batson was promoted to Sergeant, in December 1999.
In January 2001, Sergeant Batson was assigned to Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Parris Island, South Carolina for duty as Primary Marksmanship Instructor.
In March 2003, Sergeant Batson attended Basic Recruiters Course in San Diego, California. Subsequently, Sergeant Batson was assigned to Recruiting Station Fort Lauderdale, Florida. In October of 2003 Sergeant Batson was promoted to Staff Sergeant where he was assigned as Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in charge of Recruiting Sub-Station Hollywood, Florida.
In October 2006, Staff Sergeant Batson was assigned to 1st Battalion 4th Marines, Camp Pendleton, California. In April 2007, he deployed for combat operations in Operation Iraqi Freedom 6-8, where he served as 3rd Rifle Platoon Sergeant, Alpha Company. Upon returning to CONUS Staff Sergeant Batson was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant and transferred Charlie Company, 1st Battalion 4th Marines. In September 2008 Gunnery Sergeant Batson deployed for combat operations Operation Iraqi Freedom 9-2.
In July 2009, Gunnery Sergeant Batson was assigned as the Operations Chief, III MEF Headquarters Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa Japan. Gunnery Sergeant Batson deployed in support of Exercise Cobra Gold, Taliban Saber and Ulchi Freedom Guardian during his tenure at III MEF Headquarters Group.
In May of 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Batson was assigned to 3d Battalion 7th Marines. Upon arriving at 3d Battalion 7th Marines Gunnery Sergeant Batson was assigned to an individual augment billet. In October 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Batson deployed for combat operations in support Operation Enduring Freedom 12-2, as Senior Enlisted Border Advisor. In September 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Batson deployed for combat operations in support Operation Enduring Freedom 13-2.
Gunnery Sergeant Batson was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant in June of 2014 and transferred to Marine Corps Communications Electronics School where he served as the Headquarters Company First Sergeant. In February 2015, First Sergeant Batson was transferred to Air Control Training Squadron to serve as Squadron Sergeant Major.
First Sergeant Batson’s personal awards include the, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal x4, Joint Achievement Medal and, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal x2.
