Sergeant Major
SgtMaj Matthew A. Moore

    Matthew A. Moore enlisted in the Marine Corps July 1996 and completed recruit training at MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina.  After completing Infantry Training Battalion at the School of Infantry, he was assigned the MOS 0311 Infantry Rifleman.

      In January 1997, Private Moore reported to 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines for duty as an Infantry Rifleman.  During this assignment, he was promoted from Private through Corporal.  While with 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, Corporal Moore was involved with two Mediterranean deployments with the 22nd and 24th Marine Expeditionary Units (MEU). In May of 2000, Corporal Moore was reassigned to the School of Infantry (East), where he served as a Combat Instructor for Marine Combat Training Battalion.  Promoted to Sergeant in November of 2000, Sergeant Moore trained Marines through twenty-six training cycles before moving to the instructor group for duty as a platform instructor.  In January 2004, Sergeant Moore was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and became the Training and Evaluations Chief for Marine Combat Training Battalion. In July 2004, Staff Sergeant Moore was reassigned to Kilo Company 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines for duty as a Platoon Sergeant.  Staff Sergeant Moore participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 4-06 and 5-07 as apart of Regimental Combat Teams Two and Five.  During OIF 5-07, Staff Sergeant Moore was Combat Meritoriously promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant by winning the I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) Forward, Combat Meritorious Gunnery Sergeant Board.  Once promoted to Gunnery Sergeant, Gunnery Sergeant Moore changed duties from Platoon Sergeant to Company Gunnery Sergeant for Kilo Company. In May 2007, Gunnery Sergeant Moore was reassigned to Train the Trainer School (T3S), Training and Education Command formerly known as Instructional Management School (IMS).  Gunnery Sergeant Moore was the Chief Instructor for the Detachment and also served as an instructor in the Formal School Instructor Course (FSIC), Curriculum Developers Course (CDC), and Course Chief for the Unit Readiness Planning Course (URPC). In April of 2010, Gunnery Sergeant Moore was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and was reassigned to Okinawa, Japan to serve with 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18 as the Detachment Alpha First Sergeant.  In July 2013 he was reassigned to the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force in Indian Head, Maryland to serve as the Headquarters and Service Company First Sergeant.

    In January 2017 First Sergeant Moore was promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major.  In February 2017 he was reassigned to Fort Lee, VA to serve as the Marine Corps Detachment Sergeant Major.  Sergeant Major Moore’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars and combat “V”, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars and combat “V”, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with one silver star, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one silver star and one bronze star.
