Capt Garner H. Bayless
Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood

Captain Garner H. Bayless was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 19th, 1996. He attended school at Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville Virginia. Following graduation he attended Officer Candidate Course 231 and was commissioned on August 10th, 2019. 
 
Upon graduation from OCC, 2ndLt Bayless attended The Basic School graduating with Fox Company 6-19 in March of 2020. He then attended Combat Engineer Officer Course in Courthouse Bay, North Carolina where he graduated as a 1302, Combat Engineer Officer.
 
In March, 2021 2ndLt Bayless checked in to 1st Combat Engineer Battalion where he would serve as a Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer. As a Platoon Commander, he executed 5 SLTEs and a UDP to Okinawa Jpan. and assumed the duties of H&S Company Executive Officer. 1stLt Bayless was selected for Engineer Captain Career Course with the United States Army located in Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. He graduated ECCC and promoted to Captain in December of 2023. 
 
In January 2024 Capt Bayless checked into 7th Engineer Support Battalion and assumed command of 1st Bulk Fuel Company. In July, 2024 he took command of Charlie Company in preparation for the execution of Marine Corps Engineer Detachment Palau 25.1 from January to July 2025. Upon return from deployment, he assumed position of Assistant Operations Officer. 
 
Captain Bayless returned to Fort Leonard Wood in May 2026 where he holds his current billet of Engineer Equipment Instruction Company Commander.
 
Capt Bayless holds a bachelors in economics with minors in history and rhetoric.
