Master Sergeant Michael C. Skinner was born November 11, 1982 in McAlester, Oklahoma. He grew up in Quinton, Oklahoma where he graduated from Quinton High School in May 2001. In June 2001, Recruit Skinner reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California. Private Skinner graduated from MCRD San Diego on in Aug 2001 with Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Regiment. He attended Marine Combat Training at the School of Infantry West in October 2001. He then reported to the Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri in November 2001 to attend the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense Basic Course. He was promoted to Private First Class in December 2001. He received the MOS 5711 Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense Specialist in March 2002.
In April 2002, Private First Class Skinner reported to 2D Marine Division on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for duty as a Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense Specialist. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in August 2003 and Corporal in June 2004. He transferred to 2D Combat Engineer Battalion for duty as the Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Defense Non-Commissioned Officer in July 2003.
In April 2005, Corporal Skinner reported to Marine Aircraft Group 24 on Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii for duty as the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Non-Commissioned Officer and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He was transferred to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 463 in February 2006 in order to deploy in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.
In June 2008, Sergeant Skinner reported for duty to Recruiting Substation Rockford, Illinois, Recruiting Station Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a Canvassing Recruiter. In January 2009, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In December 2010, Staff Sergeant Skinner reported to the Chemical Biological Incident Response Force on board Naval Station Indianhead, Maryland for duty as the Identification and Detection Platoon Sergeant. In July 2011, he took over the duties as the Operations Chief for Response Force Alpha and coordinated CBIRF support for a Joint Session of Congress and a Presidential State of the Union.
In January 2013, Staff Sergeant Skinner reported to 3D Marine Division on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan for duty as the Division Chemical Biological Radiological Defense Chief. He was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant in December 2013 and transferred to 12th Marine Regiment on Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan for duty as the Regiment Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Chief.
In January 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Skinner reported to 10th Marine Regiment on Camp Lejeune, North Carolina for duty as the Regiment Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Chief. He deployed in support of Operation JUNIPER SHIELD to Special Operations Command Forward - Northwest Africa for duty as the Future Operations Chief in June 2017. He was promoted to Master Sergeant in February 2019.
In July 2019, Master Sergeant Skinner reported to Headquarters 3D Marine Logistics Group for duty as the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense Operations Coordinator.
In July 2022, Master Sergeant Skinner reported to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Instruction Company, Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood to serve as the Company 1stSgt and Academics Chief. He is currently serving at the Academics Officer.
Master Sergeant Skinner's personnel awards include the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with 1 gold star in lieu of 2nd award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 2 gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, and various other Service and Campaign medals.
