First Sergeant Carrera enlisted in the Marine Corps in July 2008 from Clifton, New Jersey. He completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, followed by Marine Combat Training and aviation maintenance training at NAS Pensacola, FL, and the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Detachment (CNATT), Camp Pendleton, CA
In August 2009, PFC Carrera reported to HMLA-469 at Camp Pendleton as an H-1 Avionics Technician. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in September 2009 and Corporal in May 2010. He deployed to Okinawa in support of the 31st MEU, and in 2011 deployed to Afghanistan in support of OEF 12.1 -12.2, serving as an H-1 Avionics Collateral Duty Inspector.
In February 2013, Corporal Carrera executed orders to HMLA-367 at Kaneohe Bay, HI, where he performed the duties on an H-1 Avionics CDI. He was promoted to Sergeant in June 2013. During his time at HMLA-367 Sgt Carrera deployed twice to Okinawa in support of the 31st MEU and held the following billets: H-1 Avionics Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR), Day Crew Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge, and was awarded the 6199 Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) designating him as a UH-1Y Aerial Observer.
In October 2016, Sergeant Carrera executed orders to CNATT, Camp Pendleton, CA. Sergeant Carrera performed the duties of an Avionics Organizational Level Instructor. In March 2017, he was designated and performed the duties of an Instructor Evaluator. In July 2017, he was designated and performed the duties of a Master Training Specialist. He was Promoted to Staff Sergeant in October 2018.
In February 2020, Staff Sergeant Carrera executed Orders to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Training Squadron 303. Where he was assigned to the Avionics Work Center and served as the Avionics Work Center Supervisor, H-1 Avionics CDQAR, and UH-1Y Aerial Observer. In January 2021, Staff Sergeant Carrera was transferred to the Quality Assurance Work Center and served as an H-1 Avionics Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) and UH-1Y Aerial Observer.
In July 2021, Staff Sergeant Carrera executed orders to the School of Infantry - West (SOI-W) Camp Pendleton, CA and earned the 0913 billet MOS. He was assigned to Hotel Company, MCT Battalion, where he served as a Platoon Commander and later Company Gunnery Sergeant. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in February 2022, he was transferred to Lima Company, SOI-W, where he served as the Legal Chief and acting Company First Sergeant. In February 2024, he was assigned to Headquarters & Instructor Company as Company Gunnery Sergeant.
In July 2024 Gunnery Sergeant Carrera executed orders to HMLA-169, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he was assigned to the Maintenance Control Work Center and served as a Maintenance Controller. He was later transferred to Marine Aircraft Group 39 Headquarters Squadron and appointed as the Squadron First Sergeant. In June 2025, First Sergeant Carrera was promoted to his current rank.
He received orders and reported to his current billet as the Company First Sergeant at Engineer Equipment Instruction Company, Marine Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. First Sergeant Carrera's personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal (4th award), and the Combat Instructor Ribbon. First Sergeant Carrera is married to Terri Carrera, and they have three children.
