1stSgt Johnathan Huckaba
Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood

First Sergeant Huckaba was born on 16 Jan 1985 in Banning, CA, where he graduated from West Valley High School.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 2004.

He graduated recruit training from Delta Company, First Recruit Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego, CA., on September 5th, 2004. After graduation, he reported to Marine Combat Training aboard Camp Pendleton, CA. Upon graduation of MCT he received orders to Motor Transport Instruction Company in Fort Leonard Wood, MO.

In October 2004 he received orders to Okinawa Japan, Camp Hanson, III Marine Headquarters Group (MHG) Motor Transport Platoon where he was promoted to Private First Class (PFC). He was transferred to Marine Training Unit (MTU) and was a coach on the rifle and pistol range. He was promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl) and became the III Marine Expeditionary Force Sargeant Majors’ driver. He was promoted to Corporal in October 2006.

In October 2006 he received orders to Twenty-nine Palms, 3rd Marine 7th Regiment (3/7), Headquarters and Services Company, Motor Transport Platoon. With 3/7 he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and was assigned as an operator, assistant convoy commander and a convoy commander. In October 2008 he was assigned to Tactical Training Exercise Command Group (TTECG) on Twenty-nine Palms, as the Platoon Sergeant.

In November 2009 he was assigned to 2nd Marine 7th Regiment (2/7) Headquarters and Services Company, Motor Transport Platoon. With 2/7 he deployed three times; twice to Okinawa to support the 31st MEU and once to Helmond Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In March 2014 he received orders to 1st Tank Battalion Headquarters Company Motor Transport Platoon. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in October 2014 and was appointed as the Division licensing SNCOIC.

In September 2015, he reported to Drill Instructor (DI) School aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) San Diego. In December of 2015, he graduated from DI School and was assigned to Second Battalion, Golf Company, graduating five platoons in the Drill Instructor Billet and four platoons as a Senior Drill Instructor.

In February of 2019, he was assigned to Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood as an instructor for Motor Transport Instruction Company (MTIC). He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in August 2019. He served as the Alpha and Bravo Team Leader, H&S Company First Sergeant, and MTIC’s Course Chief.

In July 2022, He reported back to MCRDSD were he completed a cycle as a Senior Drill Instructor with Company I. After being Frocked to 1stSgt in December of 202,2 he became the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Receiving Company. In May of 2023 he became the Senior Enlisted Advisor for Kilo Company. In July 2024 he became the acting SgtMaj for Support Battalion until he executed orders to Fort Leanard Wood in January 2025

In January 2025, He reported to Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood as the Company First Sergeant for MTIC.

First Sergeant Huckaba’s personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars and the Combat Action Ribbon. First Sergeant has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Columbia College and is currently working on his master’s in teaching.
