Lieutenant Colonel David M. Campbell
Marine Corps Detachment Newport

     LtCol Campbell is originally from Houston, Texas.  He enlisted in the Marine Corps following high school and first stood on the yellow footprints at MCRD San Diego in July 1994.  Following boot camp and Marine Combat Training, he proceeded to NAS Millington, TN and MCAS Cherry Point for training as an AV8-B Harrier Airframes/Hydraulics Mechanic (MOS 6055>6252).

LtCol Campbell served with VMA-513 at MCAS Yuma, AZ from 1995-2001.  During this time, he deployed on a WESTPAC/31st MEU detachment aboard the USS Belleau Wood.  He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant in 2001 and was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program (MECEP).

Following the MECEP prep school, LtCol Campbell studied at the University of Houston from 2001-2005 and he completed Officer Candidate School in 2002.  In 2005, he graduated with a degree in Education (specializing in grades 4-8) and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.  After completing The Basic School in Quantico, VA and the Basic Qualification Course in Athens, GA, LtCol Campbell earned the officer MOS of 6602 (Aviation Supply Officer).

LtCol Campbell was assigned to MALS-11 at MCAS Miramar.  During this tour, he served in a variety of billets and deployed to Al-Taqqadum, Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  In 2009, he was ordered to serve as the MALS-41 Aviation Supply Officer at NAS/JRB Fort Worth, Texas. 

In 2012, LtCol Campbell was selected to attend resident Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, VA.  In 2013, he was assigned as the Schools Officer in Charge at the Marine Detachment in Newport, RI.  In this role, he was responsible for supervising the training of future Aviation Supply Officers as well as enlisted Aviation Logistics Information Management Systems Marines.

Upon leaving the schoolhouse in 2016, LtCol Campbell was assigned as the Aviation Supply Officer at MALS-29, MCAS New River.  After successful completion of his department head tour, LtCol Campbell was selected to attend the resident Command and Staff Course at the Naval War College. He graduated in 2020 with a Master of Arts in Defense and Strategic Studies.

Following graduation, he reported to Headquarters, Commander Naval Air Forces Pacific, NAS North Island, CA where he was assigned as the Allowancing Officer in Charge, N414. Upon selection for promotion, LtCol Campbell executed PCA orders to serve as Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff, Aviation Logistics Department (ALD), 3d Marine Aircraft Wing.

Upon completion of his tour at 3d MAW, LtCol Campbell seized the opportunity to return to Naval Station Newport, RI to serve as the Commanding Officer, Marine Detachment Newport.

LtCol Campbell's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (3rd award) and the Navy Achievement Medal (3rd award).
