First Sergeant Skelton enlisted in the Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program in May 2005 and reported to Recruit Training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, CA in September 2005, upon graduating Recruit Training Private Skelton reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) West Camp Pendleton, California. Upon Completion of MCT he reported to Personnel Administrative School and earned the MOS of 0151.
In March 2006, Private First Class Skelton reported for duty with 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Parris Island, SC. Private First Class Skelton served as an administrative clerk and was promoted to Lance Corporal in November 2006. In 2007 Lance Corporal Skelton attended Military Police training and worked for base PMO. In April 2008 Lance Corporal Skelton was promoted to Corporal and assigned as the S-1 NCOIC.
In September 2008, Corporal Skelton received orders to Recruiting Station St. Louis, MO. He served as the Operations NCO for the Recruiting Station and was promoted to Sergeant in January 2010. Sergeant Skelton attended Sergeant Course in Quantico, VA in 2010. In April 2010 Sergeant Skelton was assigned as the S-1 NCOIC for the Recruiting Station.
In September 2012 Sergeant Skelton reported to Drill Instructor School at MCRD, San Diego, CA. In December 2012 Sergeant Skelton reported to Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment for duty as a Drill Instructor. He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in December 2014 and served in the billets of Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, and Chief Drill Instructor.
In November 2015 Staff Sergeant Skelton reported to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 18, Marine Air Control Group 18, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan. He served as the Squadron Administrative Chief. In January 2016 Staff Sergeant Skelton attended Career Course. In April 2016 Staff Sergeant Skelton was assigned as the Squadron Adjutant.
In October 2017 Staff Sergeant Skelton reported to Drill Instructor School at MCRD, San Diego, CA for a second tour. Staff Sergeant Skelton reported to Alpha Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment. He served as a Chief Drill Instructor. Staff Sergeant Skelton was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in February 2018 and assigned to Drill Instructor School. He served as a Squad Instructor and Chief Instructor.
In October 2019 Gunnery Sergeant Skelton reported to 1st Marine Raider Support Battalion, Marine Raider Support Group, Marine Special Operations Command and immediately attended Advance Course. Upon graduating Gunnery Sergeant Skelton was assigned as the Battalion Administrative Chief. In February 2020 Gunnery Sergeant Skelton was then assigned to Communications Company where he served as the Company First Sergeant.
In January 2022 Gunnery Sergeant Skelton was frocked to First Sergeant and assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines where he deployed to Australia in support of REDEX and deployed to Okinawa, Japan in support of UDP.
In February of 2024 First Sergeant Skelton received orders to Logistics Operations School in Camp Johnson, NC where he currently serves.
