Biography
Colonel Duane A. Durant
Marine Corps Intelligence Schools

Colonel Durant most recently served as Joint Staff J-2’s Deputy Director for Intelligence in the Pentagon’s National Military Command Center. He received his commission in 2000 after graduating from Stony Brook University, Long Island, NY.

Col Durant’s military schools include the Marine Corps Infantry Officer Course, Expeditionary Warfare School, MAGTF Intelligence Officer Course, Operations and Tactics Instructor Course, the U.S. Army Red Team Course, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the National War College.

He holds a Master of Military Studies (with Distinction) from Marine Corps University and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy (with a concentration in Cyber Security Leadership) from National Defense University.

As an Infantry Officer, he commanded a rifle platoon, served as a Fire Support Team Leader in combat, and commanded a FAST Platoon in 1st Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Company. He also served as a Platoon Commander in an Officer Candidate School training company. As an Intelligence Officer, he commanded Production & Analysis Company in 3d Intelligence Battalion, and was Commanding Officer for 1st Radio Battalion, the Corps’ premier tactical Signals Intelligence and Electronic Warfare unit.

Col Durant’s staff assignments include Rifle Company Executive Officer, 3d Intelligence Battalion Future Operations Officer, Intelligence Operations Center-Afghanistan Senior Watch Officer, HQMC DIRINT Futures & Assessments Officer, 3d Radio Battalion Executive Officer, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific G-2 Plans Officer & G-2 Operations Officer, and Deputy Legislative Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.

In addition to numerous exercises in countries across the INDOPACOM theater, Col Durant’s deployments include to Okinawa and mainland Japan as part of the Unit Deployment Program, Iraq as part of Task Force Tarawa in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Djibouti as part of an Antiterrorism Task Force, Guantanamo Bay and Bahrain as part of the FAST Deployment Program, and Afghanistan as part of the Marine Expeditionary Brigade.

Col Durant’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (w/ 3 Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (w/ 2 Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (w/ Valor Combat Distinguishing Device and Gold Star), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
