Major Shawn R. Loughman
Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One

Major Loughman was born in Newark, Ohio and enlisted in the US Navy in December 2001 as a Nuclear Machinist Mate. He graduated from Nuclear Prototype in June 2003 and was accepted to attend the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon successful completion in June 2004, he attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. He graduated in May 2008 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant.

In January 2009, he completed The Basic School and was assigned to Naval Support Activity Athens, Georgia for Aviation Supply Officer School training. Upon completion of formal training, he was designated as an Aviation Supply Officer (MOS 6602).

In June 2009, Second Lieutenant Loughman was assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) 12 at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Iwakuni, Japan. He served in a variety of billets within the Aviation Supply Department, including the Accounting, Squadron Support, Repairables Management, and Supply Response divisions. During his time at MALS-12, he also served as the Detachment OIC for detachments to Kadena AFB, Khorat, Thailand (Cobra Gold), Clark AB Philippines (Phiblex), Hickam AFB (Lava Viper), and WTI 1-12 as the Aviation Supply Officer.

In June 2012, First Lieutenant Loughman departed MALS-12 and reported to MALS-16 at MCAS Miramar, San Diego, California. At MALS-16, he served as the Aviation Supply Officer, the Assistant Aviation Supply Officer, the Continuous Process Improvement Officer, and the Legal Officer. In November 2013, Captain Loughman deployed as part of a Security Force Assistance Advisor Team (SFAAT) to Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan serving as the Watch Officer in support of an Afghan National Police Advisory Team. Additionally, he served as the G-7 Training Advisor to the Regional Corps Battle School on Camp Shorabak. Upon successfully completing his deployment in August 2014, Captain Loughman returned to MALS-16.

In June 2015, Captain Loughman departed MALS-16 and reported to the Defense Logistics Agency (Aviation Branch) in Richmond, Virginia. While part of the Marine Team at DLA, he served as the F/A-18 A-D Weapon System Program Manager (WSPM) and the H-1 WSPM in support of operational squadrons, industrial support activities, and PMA-265 and 276. While serving at DLA, he also received his level 3 Life Cycle Logistics certification from the Defense Acquisitions University.

In July 2018, Captain Loughman departed DLA and reported to Marine Corps Command and Staff (C&S) College in Quantico, Virginia. In August 2018, he was promoted to his current rank of Major.

Upon successful completion of C&S College in June 2019, Maj Loughman reported to MCAS Iwakuni to serve as the MALS-12 Supply Officer. In May 2021, Maj Loughman assumed the position of Executive Officer for MALS-12.

In June 2022, Major Loughman reported to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 23 to serve as the Commanding Officer for Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One.

Major Loughman’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (Gold Star in lieu of Second Award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. Major Loughman has earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Political Science from USNA and a Master's of Science degree in Supply Chain Management from the University of San Diego.
