Commanding Officer, Logistics Operations School
Lieutenant Colonel Amber G. Coleman
Camp Lejeune, North Carolina
Lieutenant Colonel Coleman is a native of Dallas, Texas. She graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Quantitative Economics and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps.
In 2005, upon completion of the Logistics Officers Course, she was assigned to Truck Company, Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, as a motor transportation platoon commander. In 2006, she deployed with her platoon to Camp Fallujah, Iraq where they conducted over 200 combat missions throughout the Al Anbar Province.
She then reported to Headquarters Battery, 11th Marine Regiment, where she served as the regimental logistics officer and the maintenance management officer. In 2008, she deployed to Haditha, Iraq as the assistant logistics officer/truck platoon commander for 3d Battalion, 4th Marines, one of the first women to deploy with an infantry battalion in this capacity.
Upon return from Iraq, she reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina where she served as a series commander, company executive officer, and company commander at 4th Recruit Training Battalion. She also served as the supply/logistics officer for Headquarters and Service Battalion. In 2011, Captain Coleman was assigned to Marine Wing Support Squadron 373 where she served as a company commander and operations officer. During this time, she also received a Master of Science in Supply Chain Management from Syracuse University via the Center of Excellence in Logistics and Technology (LOGTECH) program. In 2014, she served as the G-4 operations officer for 3d Marine Aircraft Wing. In June 2014, Captain Coleman reported to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Monterey, California where she was soon promoted. Major Coleman graduated with a Master of Science in Operations Research in June 2016 and earned the secondary military occupational specialty of 8850, Operations Research Analyst.
In July 2016, Major Coleman reported to Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM) in Albany, Georgia where she served as an operations research analyst/operations research branch head where she led several data analysis efforts including optimization of warehouse space and analysis of the Enterprise Lifecycle Cycle Management Program.
In June 2018, Major Coleman took over as the executive officer for Combat Logistics Battalion 6. During this time, she received the Latina Style, Inc. 2018 Distinguished Military Service Award and received the Military Operations Research Society’s John K. Walker, Jr Award for the best PHALANX article in 2018, “Marine Corps Logistics Command Warehouse Optimization Model.” Major Coleman transferred to Combat Logistics Regiment 2 where she assumed the role of regimental logistics officer.
In May 2020, Major Coleman transitioned to U.S. Marine Forces, Pacific where she served as the G-9’s Experimentation, Wargaming, and Experimentation Branch Head followed by the G-4 War Plans Branch Head. She was promoted to lieutenant colonel in October 2020.
Lieutenant Colonel Coleman completed the Tactical Logistics Operations Course, Intermediate Logistics Operations Course, Expeditionary Warfare School (non-resident), and Naval War College via the NPS College of Distance Education (Distinguished Graduate). She is also an American Society of Quality (ASQ) certified Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Black Belt and is a member of the Military Operations Research Society (MORS).
Lieutenant Colonel Coleman has been awarded the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold star, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
