School of Infantry-West


As the Academic Director at the School of Infantry-West (SOI-W), I direct for the SOI-W Commanding Officer in the Learning and Development Department (LDD).  I am responsible for providing recommendations, monitoring, and developing all education and training materials for entry level, intermediate-level and advanced-level School of Infantry-West courses.  We consist of four training battalions:  Marine Combat Training Battalion, Infantry Training Battalion, Advanced Infantry Training Battalion, Mobilization Training Battalion plus Headquarters and Support Battalion.  The Academic Director is responsible for up to 50 Programs of Instruction (POI) to include the following courses in Basic Rifleman, Basic Infantry, Infantry Squad Leader, Infantry Unit Leader, Light Armored Reconnaissance, Scout, Sniper, Combat Hunter, Basic Machineguns, Reconnaissance, Reserve Infantry, Martial Arts, Combat Marksmanship, Mobilization Combat Refresher, Combat Instructor, Parachute, Military Working Dog, and Infantry Train the Trainer.  Not all of these courses are taught at the same time, but require routine maintenance and updates.  Some of these courses are located in Hawaii, Arizona, and other bases in California.  The Academic Director plans, organizes, and executes T&R working groups and conferences, Course Content Review Boards (CCRB), Master Lesson File (MLF) working groups, resource working groups and other conferences or working groups as required.  The Academic Director ensures adherence to Marine Corps Instructional Systems Design (MCISD)/Systems Approach to Training and Education (SATE) processes.
