First Sergeant
First Sergeant DaLeon A. Fashaw

First Sergeant Fashaw was born on 2 March 1984 and raised in Seattle, Washington. His Marine Corps career started on 27 January 2003, when he attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California.


He then attended Engineer Equipment Mechanics School in Fort Leonard Wood, MO and was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of Engineer Equipment Mechanic (1341).  While a student in the Engineer Equipment Mechanic School he was promoted to the rank of Private First Class.


Upon his graduation, he proceeded to 9th Engineer Support Battalion, Camp Hanson, Okinawa, Japan.  While serving with 9th ESB he was promoted to Lance Corporal and then meritoriously to Corporal. During this time he served as an Engineer Equipment Mechanic, Training NCO, and Platoon Sergeant.


In September 2004 he received orders to 8th Communication Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC. During this tour he served as Engineer Equipment Section Chief, Maintenance Management NCO, Tool Room and Publication NCO, Platoon Sergeant, and Battalion Color Sergeant. During his time at 8th Communication Battalion he was meritoriously promoted to Sergeant.


In December 2006 he was then transferred to the Inspector-Instructor Staff, 4th Landing Support Battalion (LSB), Fort Lewis, WA. Served as Engineer Equipment Chief, Head Quarters and Service Company Liaison, as well as the battalion engineer equipment advisor and inspector for eight sites spread across the United States and territories. During the time he served with 4th LSB he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.


In January 2010 he executed orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion, Camp Pendleton, CA. There he deployed with Combat Logistic Regiment (FWD) from September 2010 to April 2011 to Afghanistan as the Platoon Sergeant of Heavy Equipment Platoon. Upon returning from Afghanistan he continued to serve with 1st Maintenance Battalion holding the billets of Platoon Sergeant, Substance Abuse Control Officer, and Headquarters and Service Company Gunnery Sergeant. For his meritorious service and actions while serving with 1st Maintenance Battalion he was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal.


In December 2012, Staff Sergeant Fashaw received orders to Marine Security Guard School with class 2-13 as a student Detachment Commander. Upon graduation he was assigned to post Managua, Nicaragua, Region 9, MCESG. After completing his tour there, he then received orders to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Region 2, MCESG. While serving as the Detachment Commander for Riyadh he was promoted to his current rank of Gunnery Sergeant.


In March 2016 he executed orders to Combat Logistics Battalion 6 (CLB-6), serving as the Engineer Equipment Chief and Engineer Company Operations Chief. In October 2016, Gunnery Sergeant Fashaw served as a plank holder for the Force Fitness Instructor (FFI) program by attending the initial course, become one of the first FFIs in the Marines Corps. In July 2017, he attached to the Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force to Africa and deployed to Sigonella, Italy. During this time he served as the Head Quarters and Service Company 1stSgt. Redeploying April 2018, he returned to CLB-6 where he served as the Engineer Equipment Maintenance Chief.


In February 2019, he was then promoted to the rank of First Sergeant and executed orders to School of Infantry-East (SOI-E), Marine Combat Training Battalion; where he currently serves as the India Company 1stSgt. He was then hand selected to be the First Sergeant of SOI-E Marine Combat Instructor School.


First Sergeant Fashaw's personal awards include the, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal W/ Gold Star in lieu of third award, two Certificates of Commendation, Certificate of Appreciation, and five Letters of Appreciation.
