Field Medical Training Battalion - West
Master Chief Petty Officer Joseph Martin

In May of 1999, MCPO Martin enlisted as a Seaman Recruit and attended Basic Training at Navy Recruit Training Center Great Lakes. Upon graduation, he attended Hospital Corpsman “A” school. In March 2000, he attended Field Medical Service School, Camp Pendleton. After successful completion of FMSS he reported to 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion 1st MARDIV and deployed with Company D attached to the 13th MEU.

In October of 2002, HM3 Martin was assigned to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines. Shortly after reporting he was deployed with 1/2 to participate in OIF I. 

In November 2003, HM2 Martin reported to FMSS West for instructor duty. He was a platoon advisor for a total of 11 classes preparing over 1,100 Sailors for duty with the FMF and achieved the Master Training Specialist Qualification. 

Once his instructor duty was completed HM2 Martin began training in the Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman pipeline in May 2006. HM2 Martin completed BRC, MCD, DMMP, Basic Airborne, and SOCM by December 2007. He then reported for duty at 1st Reconnaissance BN. 

CPO Martin reported to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion in May 2011, served as the MSOC B Medical Chief through 2014 and then as the MSOC A Medical Chief from 2014 until September 2015. In June 2014 CPO Martin was promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer and in August 2017 he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer. He served as 1st Marine Raider Battalion Navy Senior Enlisted Leader from September 2015 until May 2020. 

MCPO Martin reported to MARFORSOC in July 2020 and served as the Command Master Chief until August 2023. He is currently assigned to Field Medical Training Battalion West as the Command Master Chief. MCPO Martin's personal decorations include, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with combat distinguishing device (1 Gold Star), and Navy Achievement Medal with combat distinguishing device (2 Gold Stars). Master Chief Martin is married to Harmony Martin. They have three children: Naiya (18), Layton (12), and Phoebe (9).
