CDR Campbell joined the Navy in 2004. Upon completion of Officer Indoctrination School, he reported to NAS Pensacola where he completed aeromedical and flight training in 2005, earning his MSC wings and designation as Aerospace Experimental Psychologist #128.

He was assigned to the Naval Aerospace Medical Research Lab, NAS Pensacola and in 2007, CDR Campbell deployed to Iraq to conduct the first in-theater operational stress surveillance of Navy personnel in OIF, while also executing an ONR funded prospective study of posttraumatic stress disorder. 

In 2008 he reported to the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and deployed to Afghanistan to conduct the first operational stress surveillance of Navy personnel in OEF. He was then tapped to create the concept of operations for a VCNO directed operational stress control surveillance mission to OEF that become the Navy Mobile Care Teams. He was a plank-owner for the first Mobile Care Team, deploying as the Assistant Officer-In-Charge from December 2009 to June 2010; and in 2011 led an operational stress surveillance mission to GTMO.

In 2011, CDR Campbell reported to the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific (SSCP) and selected for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Gray Team, a joint psychological health evaluation team that deployed to OEF. Upon return to SSCP, he joined the DARPA program management team and served as program manager for a 2-year, $500k effort that established a data-based assessment and screening program for evaluating applicants to the Marine Corps Embassy Security Guard program.

In 2014 he reported to Naval Medical Center San Diego, directing operations for the Navy’s premier posttraumatic stress disorder treatment program – OASIS. In 2015, CDR Campbell was selected as the lead plans, operations, and medical intelligence (POMI) officer for the global health engagement mission Pacific Partnership 2016, with missions to East Timor, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia during a five month sea duty deployment aboard the USNS Mercy.

In 2017, he executed orders to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing in Okinawa, Japan as Deputy Wing Surgeon/Medical Planner. He was Joint Surgeon for the USINDOPACOM Combined/Joint Exercise Balikatan 2018, overseeing planning and health services delivery to more than 5,000 Joint U.S. service members across 12 areas of operation in the Philippines; and the following year MARFOR Surgeon planning/supervising health services to over 2,000 Sailors and Marines deployed to 12 locations throughout Thailand during Exercise Cobra Gold 2019.

In 2019, CDR Campbell was assigned the Officer-In-Charge of the Health Services Support Element of the 1st Marine Logistics Group.

CDR Campbell joined Field Medical Training Battalion West in May 2020, serving as Executive Officer.

CDR Campbell holds BA in psychology (Univ. of Alabama), Master’s in psychology/neuropsychology emphasis (Univ. for Northern Colorado), Ph.D. in educational psychology (Univ. of Northern Colorado), and an executive masters of business administration (U.S. Naval Postgraduate School). He has held appointments as Adjunct Assistant Professor (Embry-Riddle University Worldwide) and Adjunct Professor of Research (East Carolina University); and authored/co-authored 34 journal articles and book chapters. He is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and holds DAWIA certifications in program management (level 2) and science and technology management (level 3).   

CDR Campbell’s personal awards and campaign Medals include the Navy and Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal (2), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2), the Iraq Campaign Medal (1), and the Sea Service Ribbon (3).
