LtCol LeRon E. Lane was born aboard MCAS Cherry Point, Cherry Point, NC and is a graduate of Barton College. Commissioned through Officer Candidates Course (OCC) program, he graduated The Basic School (TBS) in 2001. After graduating from the Communications Information Systems Officers Course (CISOC) in 2002, 2nd Lieutenant Lane was assigned as the Single Channel Platoon Commander, Alpha Company, Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 (MWCS 28). He deployed in support of the invasion of Iraq in February 2003. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant during this deployment.
After returning from this deployment and serving as the Wire / TechCon Platoon Commander and then Multi-Channel Radio Platoon Commander, he returned to Iraq in 2004 serving as the Alpha Company Executive Officer. Promoted to Captain, he was subsequently assigned as the Alpha Company Commander.
In 2005, Captain Lane was assigned as the communications officer (S-6) for 1st Battalion 9th Marines. As a plank holder, he helped stand up the Battalion. He returned to Iraq in this capacity to ensure reliable communications for the members of the Battalion as they served in a security mission at Camp Ashraf, Iraq.
In 2006, he was selected to serve as the Assistant Current Operations Officer, Regimental Combat Team 6 (RCT- 6). RCT-6 deployed to Camp Fallujah in the Al Anbar province, Iraq, January 2007-February 2008. During this deployment, he also held the duty of Counter Improvised Explosive Device (IED) Officer. RCT-6 was part of the surge of troops that helped regain the Coalition’s momentum in Al Anbar province.
Upon his return from Iraq, Captain Lane was assigned to serve on the staff of the United States Naval Academy. He served as the Operations Officer for the Office of Admissions and as a Marine Corps practicum instructor. His efforts directly influenced the numbers and quality of officers entering the Naval Services. He continued in this capacity from 2008-2011.
In 2011, Major Lane returned to II MEF, and began serving as the Assistant Chief of Staff (AC/S) G-6 2D Marine Logistics Group. He served as an individual augment to NATO Training Mission – Afghanistan / Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan from April 2012-November 2012. While serving as the Deputy Director, Network Support Operations, he supervised a joint staff that was responsible for the engineering and installation of the communications infrastructure that directly supported the Afghan National Security Forces. Upon completion of his duty in Afghanistan, Major Lane returned to duty as the AC/S G-6 2D Marine Logistics Group where he served until he executed PCS orders in September 2013.
Graduating from JPME II at National Defense University enroute, Major Lane reported for duty as Operations Officer, CCJ-6, United States Central Command. At USCENTCOM he also served as a branch chief, and ultimately the executive officer for Brigadier General Gallagher. While serving in this assignment, he was designated a joint qualified officer, and granted the additional 9702 MOS designator.
July 2016-June 2017, Major Lane served as a student at USMC Command and Staff College. While attending Marine Corps University, he was notified of his selection for promotion to Lieutenant Colonel. Upon graduation, He reported for duty with HQMC, Deputy Commandant for Information on June 8, 2017 and served as the Director of DC I, Programs and Resources Division until September 2018. He was then assigned as the Director of DC I, Cyberspace Synchronization Division and served there until transferring to Joint Forces Headquarters – DODIN (JFHQ-DODIN) in August 2019. While checking in to JFHQ-DODIN, he was informed of his selection to serve as Commanding Officer, Headquarters and Support Battalion, School of Infantry (East).
His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2) and the Navy Achievement Medal. He is the proud father of two sons, Jordan Lane and Jacob Lane.
