SgtMaj Maciel enlisted in the Marine Corps in November of 1995. Upon completion of recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, he reported to Marine Combat Training (MCT) Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California for duty as a student. In May of 1996 after completing MCT, SgtMaj Maciel received orders to Motor Transport (MT) School, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, for duty as a student.In September of 1996, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to HQBN, 3d Marine Division, he was assigned the duties of Hazardous Materials Noncommissioned Officer. In April of 1998, he deployed to Thailand in support of operation COBRA GOLD '98. In September of 1998, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to HQSVC BN, 1st Force Service Support Group. He was assigned the duties, Training NCO, MT Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and MT Operations Chief.
In January of 2002, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to Drill Instructor School, for duty as a Drill Instructor Student. Upon successful completion of Drill Instructor School, he was assigned to “B” Company. He served in the billets of Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor and Regimental Training Chief.
In March of 2005, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to HQBN, 1st Marine Division. He was assigned to Truck Company, HQBN, 1st Marine Division. He served in the billets of Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant. He deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 2.2 and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 6.8.
In April of 2008, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois for duty as the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor. He augmented the Instructor Cadre at Officer Candidate School in the summer 2009 and summer 2010.
In August of 2011, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 2, Cherry Point, North Carolina. He served in the billets of S-4 Staff Noncommissioned Officer, Detachment-A Senior Enlisted Advisor, and the ACE SEL for Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan. He was selected to 1stSgt in December of 2012. He served as the Squadron SgtMaj until he transferred to 2D Maintenance Battalion. He deployed in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 12.1 and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 12.2. In March 2013, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to 2d Maintenance Battalion, 2d Marine Logistics Group, Camp Lejeune, NC. He served as the Company First Sergeant, Motor Transport Maintenance Company, General Support Maintenance Company, and Engineer Maintenance Company.
In August 2015, SgtMaj Maciel reported for duty to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA. He was assigned to as the Company First Sergeant, Company “A”. In November of 2016 he was selected to SgtMaj, frocked and was assigned as the Security and Emergency Services Battalion until his transfer to 2d Battalion, 3Dd Marines. In May 2017, Sergeant Major Maciel reported for duty to 2d Battalion, 3d Marines, 3d Marine Division where he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major. He deployed in support of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan.
In January 2019, Sergeant Major Maciel reported for duty to Combat Logistics Battalion 3, Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3d Marine Logistics Group where he served as the Battalion Sergeant Major. In August 2020, Sergeant Major Maciel reported for duty to Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood to serve as the Detachment Sergeant Major.
Current personal decorations --Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with silver star, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 4 gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon and various other Service and Campaign Medals. SgtMaj Maciel has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Columbia College.
