Nathan Harmon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 2001, attended recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC and Marine Combat Training at Camp Geiger, NC. In November 2001, he began Aviation Ordnance Systems Technician School at NATTC Pensacola, FL. In January 2002, Private First Class Harmon started Aviation Ordnance Technician Intermediate Maintenance Course at NAMTRA MARUNIT Cherry Point, NC, where he was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal as the class honor graduate.
Upon graduating, he reported to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 14 (MALS-14) Ordnance, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, NC, where he worked in Ammunitions Stock Recording and Munitions. In July 2002, he began working at MALS-14 Quality Assurance as a Central Technical Publication Library (CTPL) clerk, where he was deployed to Iraq with MALS-11 (FWD) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom aboard the T-AVB (SS Wright) in January 2003.
After returning from deployment in June 2003, Corporal Harmon returned to MALS-14 Ordnance where he worked in Rack Shop and Production Control. In June of 2005, Sergeant Harmon ended his active service and began to pursue his degree full time while working as a personal trainer.
In January 2007, Sergeant Harmon was selected for the Platoon Leaders Class program, and attended Officer Candidates School that summer. In December of 2007, after receiving his bachelor degree in Management and Computer Information Systems from Park University, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. In May 2008, he reported to The Basic School, Quantico, VA and received his number one choice in Primary Military Occupational Specialty, Aviation Supply.
Upon completion of The Basic School, he reported for duty at MALS-39, Camp Pendleton, CA, where he served as the officer in charge of both Supply Accounting and Squadron Support Divisions. In January 2010, First Lieutenant Harmon served as the detachment officer in charge for AH-1Z Operational Test and Evaluation III, Air Test and Evaluation Squadron Nine (VX-9), Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake, CA.
In July 2011, he returned to the MALS-39 Supply Department, where he worked as the officer in charge of the Supply Response Division. In January 2011, he volunteered to serve as a Material Control Officer with HMLA-267 aboard MCAS Camp Pendleton and was deployed to Helmand Province in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In January 2012, First Lieutenant Harmon returned to the MALS-39, where he worked as the officer in charge of the Repairables Management Division and also served as the Assistant Aviation Supply Officer. In September 2013, he was hand selected by the Commanding Officer to serve as the S-4 Officer after the squadron’s S-4 Officer was sent on deployment without a replacement. In March of 2013, he attended the A2M2 Course that enabled him to receive the 6002 AMOS.
In May 2013, Captain Harmon received PCS orders to Recruiting Station Detroit, where he served as the Officer Selection Officer in Ann Arbor, MI. In August 2016, after successfully completing his tour on recruiting duty, he attended resident Expeditionary Warfare School, at Marine Corps Base Quantico, VA.
In June 2017, Captain Harmon executed orders to MALS-16 aboard MCAS Miramar, CA where he served as the Aviation Supply Officer and was promoted to major. In June 2018, Major Harmon was hand selected by the Commanding Officer to serve as the “Immortals” Executive Officer. In June of 2019, he was privileged enough to assume command of Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron-1 at Naval Air Station Meridian, MS.
His personal awards include: three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and a Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal.
