Assignment Chronology:
2ndLt Loveday reported to The Basic School in June 1999 and was assigned to Delta Company. Through Marine Aviation Training Support Group (MATSG) 21, Training Squadron (VT) 2, MATSG-22, and VT 31, 1stLt Loveday received his Naval Aviator designation in September 2001. Completing the Fleet Replacement Squadron at Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Training Squadron 253 in August, 2002, 1stLt Loveday reported to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron (VMGR) 152. At VMGR-152, Capt Loveday had billets in the Logistics, Safety, and Operations Departments while participating in numerous exercises throughout the Pacific Command (PACOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR). Capt Loveday served as an Individual Augment as the Fixed-Wing Fragger in the 3d Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) Tactical Air Command Center (TACC) during OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 2-2 from September 2004 to March 2005. In this role, Capt Loveday coordinated movements for the KC-130s based out of Al Asad Air Base and the UC-35s based out of Al Udeid Air Base.
Capt Loveday returned to MATSG-21 in September 2005 to serve as a Primary Flight Instructor at VT-2 at Naval Air Station (NAS) Whiting Field. During this tour, he served as a Standardization Pilot, Class Advisor, Jackets Officer, Scheduling Officer, and also as the Pilot Training Officer at the Fixed-Wing Instructor Training Unit.
In November 2008, Capt Loveday reported to Second Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (2nd ANGLICO) after completing the Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) Course at Expeditionary Warfare Training Group Atlantic (EWTGLANT). During that tour, Capt Loveday joined the 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade (MEB) as the Aviation and Targeting Liaison Officer to Regional Command South. While deployed to Afghanistan from April 2009 to April 2010, he served in a staff role for the G-3 and as a surge Forward Air Controller for 2nd ANGLICO specifically working for an Estonian platoon in 2nd Battalion 8th Marine Regiment’s battle space.
In May 2010, Maj Loveday joined VMGR-234 at NAS-Joint Reserve Base (JRB) Fort Worth. Maj Loveday served as the Airframes Division Officer, Aviation Maintenance Officer, and Director of Safety and Standardization. Additionally, Maj Loveday ran the Dallas-Fort Worth Toys for Tots Campaign in 2011 which supported over 200,000 children with toys and books. Along with standard missions throughout the Northern Hemisphere, Maj Loveday participated in detachments for African Lion 2011, Black Sea Rotation Force 2012, Marine Aircraft Group 40 in the Arabian Gulf (2012-2013), and Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force (SPMAGTF) Africa 13.3 under SPMAGTF Crisis Response.
In May 2014, Maj Loveday became the Air Officer for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). In that role, he executed four deployments in the Asia-Pacific region supporting major exercises Philippines Bilateral Exercise, Talisman Sabre 15, and Ssang Yong 16 in addition to numerous smaller exercises, Very Very Important Person missions, and Theater Security Cooperation events.
Maj Loveday arrived back in the Pensacola, Florida area in July 2016 where he initially served as the Senior Marine and Safety Officer at VT-3 at NAS Whiting Field prior to assuming his current duties as the Executive and Operations Officer of MATSG-21 and being promoted to his current rank.
