First Sergeant Butler enlisted in the Marine Corps on 10 March 2000. He reported to Parris Island, South Carolina for recruit training on 6 September 2000.
After graduating recruit training, he was assigned to Communication School at 29 Palms, CA for the Basic Wireman Course.
After completing the Basic Wireman Course, in May of 2001, First Sergeant Butler was assigned to Battery G, 2d Battalion 10th Marines. He served as a Wireman, Battery Marine Corps Integrated Maintenance Management System NCO, Wire Chief, and Squad Leader. First Sergeant Butler was promoted to Lance Corporal, Corporal and Sergeant during this tour of duty, and was deployed to the 22d MEU from December 2003 to August 2004. While assigned to the 22d MEU he participated in Operation MOUNTAIN STORM in Afghanistan.
After 2/10, First Sergeant Butler reported to the Basic Recruiter’s Course at MCRD San Diego, California in March of 2005.
Upon completing the Basic Recruiter Course, First Sergeant Butler was assigned to Recruiting Station Nashville, Tennessee. First Sergeant Butler was promoted to Staff Sergeant during this tour.
After completing a successful tour on recruiting duty, First Sergeant Butler was assigned to Marine Air Support Squadron 1, Marine Air Control Group 28 in April of 2008. During this tour, he served as a Wire Chief, Electronic Key Management System Manager and Air Support Liaison Team SNCOIC. He deployed to Al Asad, Iraq from January 2009 to August 2009 participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Camp Dwyer, Afghanistan from February 2011 to September 2011 participating in Operation Enduring Freedom.
After Marine Air Support Squadron 1, First Sergeant Butler reported to 11th Marine Regiment in January of 2012 as a Telecommunication System Chief. During this tour, he deployed with the 13th MEU as a Career Planner from January 2013 to May 2014. First Sergeant Butler was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in September of 2013.
In January of 2015, First Sergeant Butler was transferred to Communication Company, 3d Marine Logistic Group as the Telecommunication System Chief. During this tour, he served as a Company Gunnery Sergeant.
After Communication Company, First Sergeant Butler reported to Marine Wing Communication Squadron 28, Marine Air Control Group 28 in July of 2016. During this tour, he served as a Telecommunication System Chief, Marine Air Control Group 28 Corporal’s Course SNCOIC and Company First Sergeant.
In February of 2018, First Sergeant Butler was frocked to his present rank and assumed his post as a Company First Sergeant for 3d Battalion, 2d Marines. During this tour, he served as the First Sergeant for both India Company and Weapons Company. Also during his tenure, he deployed twice, once on the Unit Deployment Program 18.2 and the other on the Marine Rotational Force - Europe 20.2.
In March of 2021, First Sergeant Butler reported to his present command at Marine Corps Combat Service Support Schools as the Logistics Operations Schools First Sergeant.
First Sergeant Butler’s personal awards includes the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (gold star in lieu of second award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (gold star in lieu of fourth award) and Combat Action Ribbon.
