Lieutenant Colonel Steven Murello

Lieutenant Colonel Murello was raised in Clifton Park, New York and enlisted in the Marine Corps in August of 2001. In 2006 he graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in International Business.  He was commissioned a 2ndLt in May of 2006, and was designated a Communications Officer in June of 2007.  After completing Basic Communications Officer Course at Quantico, Virginia he was transferred to Communications Company, 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan. Lieutenant Colonel Murello was attached to Communications Company from July 2007 through August 2009. 

 

In September 2009, Lieutenant Colonel Murello was transferred to National Security Space Institute in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he performed duties as the Space 200 Course Director, Marine Corps Liaison, and Space Integration Instructor.

 

In July 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Murello was transferred to Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command where he served as the Marine Raider Regiment Assistant Communications Officer and 2nd Marine Raider Battalion Communications Officer.

 

     In June 2015, Lieutenant Colonel Murello was recruited, assessed, selected and trained for an external billet assignment within U.S. Army Special Operations Command.  

 

Following graduation from Marine Corps University Command and Staff College in May of 2020, Lieutenant Colonel Murello served as the Executive Officer for 9th Communication Battalion and the Information Warfare Coordinator for I MEF Information Group.

 

In April of 2022 Lieutenant Colonel Murello was assessed and selected for assignment within Joint Special Operations Command, where he served as the J6 Special Communication Branch Chief and the Chief of Cyber Security.  

 

Lieutenant Colonel Murello has deployed seven times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation New Dawn, and various other Counter Terrorism Operations.

 

LtCol Murello's decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with one gold star, Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat device and two oak leaf clusters, and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with one gold Star.
