Lieutenant Colonel Gurley was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia.  He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps in December 2004.  Following The Basic School and Communications Officer School, he was assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron (MWCS) 28 in January 2006 and immediately deployed to OIF 05-07.  During this tour, he served as a Platoon Commander and Systems Control (SYSCON) Watch Officer.  Returning to CONUS, First Lieutenant Gurley assumed the billets of Executive Officer and Operations Officer for Alpha Company, MWCS-28, before deploying again in July 2007 in support of OIF 06-08. 

In April 2008, Captain Gurley reported to Weapons and Tactics Instructor’s (WTI) course and was subsequently assigned to the Marine Detachment, Fort Gordon, GA, as the Detachment Commander in June.

Captain Gurley reported to 2D Marine Logistics Group (MLG) in June 2011 and assumed command of Communications Company, Combat Logistics Regiment (CLR) 27.  Upon completing his time as a Company Commander, Captain Gurley attended and completed the Advanced Communications Officer’s Course (ACOC) in Quantico, VA. Capt Gurley was subsequently assigned as the CLR 2 S-6 for the regiment’s OEF 13.1 deployment.  Upon completion, he returned to the G-6 and was assigned as the Operations Officer.

In July 2014, Captain Gurley reported to Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR) in Suffolk, VA, where he served as the USMC Amphibious Liaison for afloat C5I Modernization.  

Major Gurley reported to 3D Marine Division in July 2017 and was assigned as the Deputy G-6 until September 2017.  From October 2017 to June 2019, he was assigned as the Company Commander for Communications Company, Headquarters Battalion, 3D Marine Division.  In July 2019, he was transferred to 4th Marine Regiment and served as the Regimental S6 until June 2020.

In July 2020, Major Gurley reported to the Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group, where he was assigned as the Officer in Charge of the Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN) Division.  In April 2021, Lieutenant Colonel Gurley was assigned as Executive Officer for Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group.

LtCol Gurley’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Army Achievement Medal.
