First Sergeant Marquez enlisted in the Marine Corps in September 1997 and completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego, California during January 1998. Upon completion of recruit training he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class. Following recruit training; Private First Class Marquez attended the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, California, and was designated as an 0311, Infantry Rifleman and was meritoriously promoted to Lance Corporal.
In May, 1999 Lance Corporal Marquez reported to Marine Corps Security Force Training Company in Virginia for Basic Security Guard training and was then stationed at Marine Corps Security Force Company Keflavik, Iceland.
In June, 1999 Lance Corporal Marquez reported to Bravo Company, 1st Battalion 6th Marines, 6th Marine Regiment and deployed to Panama in support of the Panama Canal transition. LCpl Marquez was promoted to Corporal in September, 1999. Corporal Marquez then successfully completed the scout sniper indoctrination and was transferred to the scout sniper platoon where he completed a deployment to Camp Schwab, Okinawa. After returning from deployment he attended the Scout Sniper Basic Course and graduated class 2-01 in March, 2001. While in the course he was promoted to Sergeant.
In December, 2001 Sergeant Marquez reported to his next assignment at 1st Special Operations Training Group, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Ca where he initially served as a Raid Instructor. He was then selected to attend the Army Ranger School in Fort Benning, Georgia and graduated in July 2002 and then attended Army Airborne School, graduating in August 2002. After his return he attended the Urban Sniper Course and upon completion, was reassigned to serve as an Urban Sniper Instructor. He also attended Sergeant’s Course graduating first in class.
In April, 2004 Sergeant Marquez reported to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, Ca where he served as a Sniper Team Leader, Chief Scout, and Platoon Sergeant. During his 2 1/2 year tour he was promoted to Staff Sergeant, and supported two combat deployments to Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. He participated in Operation Phantom Fury during his first deployment and was deployed to Haditha for his second.
In July, 2006 Staff Sergeant Marquez was transferred to Marine Combat Instructor Course, School of Infantry West, Camp Pendleton, Ca, for instruction as a student. Upon completion of the course he was assigned to serve as an instructor at the Scout Sniper Schoolhouse on Camp Pendleton. He served as a Marksmanship Instructor, Chief Instructor, and the SNCOIC during his tour. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on 1 February 2009.
In June, 2009 Gunnery Sergeant Marquez was transferred to 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Regiment, Camp Pendleton, Ca where he served as a Scout Sniper Platoon Sergeant. He deployed with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In June, 2011 Gunnery Sergeant Marquez received orders to Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, Camp Smith, HI and served in the G3 as the Operations Chief for the Theater Security Cooperation Branch. During his 3 year tour he also served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant for Headquarters and Service Company.
In August, 2014 he was reassigned to Alpha Company “RAIDERS”, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines and served as the Company Gunnery Sergeant. He deployed to Australia as part of the Marine Rotational Force, Darwin and was promoted to First Sergeant on 1 January 2016.
First Sergeant Marquez reported to 3d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, Camp Pendleton CA, in January 2016 and served as the Battery A First Sergeant.
First Sergeant Marquez was transferred to Marine Aviation Training Support Squadron One Meridian, MS and is currently serving as the Senior Enlisted Advisor.
First Sergeant Marquez’s personal decorations include the Purple Heart Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (fifth award), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Combat “V”, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
