Sergeant Major Callahan serves as the Assault Amphibian School Battalion Sergeant Major, Training Command, Camp Pendleton California.
Sergeant Major Charles D. Callahan , enlisted in the Marine Corps’ delayed entry program in July 1991, and attended Recruit Training in June of 1992 at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD), San Diego. Upon graduation, he attended School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton California. He then went to Marine Corps Combat Service Support School Camp Johnson in North Carolina where he attended the Motor Transport Maintenance course and earned the MOS of 3521.
Lance Corporal Callahan was assigned to 7th Motor Transport Battalion, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton California from March 1993 to December 1995 and was promoted to Corporal during this time.
Corporal Callahan received orders to report to Combat Service Support Detachment (CSSD) 36, Iwakuni Japan. During this assignment Corporal Callahan served as Line Chief, and Quality Control NCO. Corporal Callahan continued to serve with CSSD 36 until Aril 1996.
Corporal Callahan received orders to report to Marine Aviation Control Squadron (MACS) 7, Marine Air Control Group 38, Yuma Arizona in May of 1996. Corporal Callahan served as Line Chief, Quality Control NCO, and Platoon Sergeant. He was promoted to Sergeant in March of 1997. Sergeant Callahan continued to serve with MACS-7 REIN until April of 1998.
Sergeant Callahan reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 373, Marine Wing Support Group 37, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar California in May of 1998. While with MWSS 373, he served as a Platoon Sergeant, and Quality Control Chief. Sergeant Callahan was promoted to Staff Sergeant on 1 April 2000 and remained at MWSS 373 until May 2000.
Staff Sergeant Callahan received orders to 1st Maintenance Battalion 1st Force Service Support Group and was selected to serve as the Motor Transport Maintenance Chief for Marine Service Support Group (MSSG) 15 in May of 2000. While at MSSG-15 Staff Sergeant Callahan was selected for Recruiting duty. Staff Sergeant Callahan continued to serve at 1st Maintenance Battalion until February of 2001.
Staff Sergeant Callahan reported to Recruiting Sub Station (RSS) Hartford Connecticut, Marine Recruiting Station Springfield Massachusetts after Recruiting School in May of 2001. Staff Sergeant Callahan served as Recruiter, and Assistant Non Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of RSS Hartford. In September of 2002 Staff Sergeant Callahan was selected to be the Station Commander of RSS Waterbury Connecticut. Staff Sergeant Callahan continued to serve as the NCOIC of RSS Waterbury until May of 2004.
Staff Sergeant Callahan reported to 2d Radio Battalion, 2d Marine Expeditionary Force Camp Lejeune North Carolina in May of 2004. He was assigned as Motor Transport Platoon Sergeant. Staff Sergeant Callahan was deployed in February of 2005 to Iraq, as the Battalion S-4 Chief. Upon return from Iraq in June of 2005 Staff Sergeant Callahan was selected to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in September of 2005 and was reassigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Head Quarters and Service (H&S) Company. Gunnery Sergeant Callahan deployed to Iraq as the H&S
Company First Sergeant in 2006. Gunnery Sergeant Callahan served as the H&S First Sergeant until March of 2007.
Gunnery Sergeant Callahan received orders to Combat Logistics Regiment 37, 3d Marine Logistics Group Okinawa Japan where he served as the Regimental Operations Chief.
Gunnery Sergeant Callahan transferred to 12th Marine Regiment 3d Marine Division in July of 2008 where he served as Team Chief Embedded Training Team 4-4. He later deployed to Afghanistan assigned to 4th Kandak, 2d Brigade, 201st Corps Afghan National Army in Lahgman Province. While deployed Gunnery Sergeant Callahan was selected to First Sergeant and was promoted on 1 August 2009. First Sergeant Callahan continued to serve with 12th Marines until August 2009.
First Sergeant Callahan received orders to Combat Logistics Regiment 37, 3d Marine Logistics Group. First Sergeant Callahan was assigned as First Sergeant Food Service Company until June of 2010.
First Sergeant Callahan received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego California and was assigned as the Company First Sergeant for Headquarters Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego in June of 2010.
In February of 2013 First Sergeant Callahan transferred to 2d Battalion 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division Camp Pendleton California. He was assigned as Company First Sergeant for Company G. First Sergeant Callahan was frocked to his present rank of Sergeant Major on 6 January 2014.
Sergeant Major Callahan received orders to Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 361, Marine Air Group 16, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing and was assigned as Sergeant Major on 7 January 2014. While serving at HMH 361 he participated in UDP 14.2 to Okinawa Japan. During this deployment HMH 361 was reinforced by HMLA 469. HMH 361 Rein participated in PHIBLEX 14.2 Clark Air Force Base Philippines and FIBLEX 14-2 in the Republic of Korea.
Sergeant Major Callahan transferred to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 311, Marine Air Group 13 in July of 2015. While serving at VMA 311 he deployed in support of the 31st MEU in July of 2015. While deployed VMA 311 participated in Talisman Saber 15, and Blue Chromite 15. After redeploying to Yuma in November of 2015 VMA 311 was selected to deploy in support of the 31st MEU 17.1 and 17.2. While deployed to the 31st MEU he participated in Max Thunder 17 in the Republic of Korea, and Talisman Saber 17 in Australia.
Sergeant Major Callahan received orders in January of 2018 and was assigned as Sergeant Major Assault Amphibian School Battalion, Training Command, Camp Pendleton California.
His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars, Navy Commendation Medal with two gold stars, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars, Combat Action Ribbon, as well as numerous unit and service awards.
