Lieutenant Colonel Alvin L. Bryant
The Basic School

     Lieutenant Colonel Bryant entered active duty in June 1990 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island. He was commissioned in March 1997 via the Marine Enlisted Commissioning and Education Program. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in June 2001.

     Lieutenant Colonel Bryant's operating force assignments include 1st Marine Division (1st MarDiv), Marine Aircraft Group 31 (MAG-31), Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 167 (HMLA-167), Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron 461 (HMH-461), five assignments to Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 533 (VMFA(AW)-533), and two assignments to Marine Aviation Training System Site (MATSS) Beaufort. With these units, he participated in Operations DESERT SHIELD, DESERT STORM, SOUTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM 1, and IRAQI FREEDOM 5.7.1, as well as five deployments to the western Pacific in support of the unit deployment program and numerous domestic and international exercises. Lieutenant Colonel Bryant's supporting establishment unit assignments include MCRD/Eastern Recruiting Region (ERR) Parris Island and Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1).

     Lieutenant Colonel Bryant's command tours include VMFA(AW)-533 and Headquarters Company, Headquarters and Service Battalion, MCRD/ERR Parris Island. His staff assignments include Adjutant and Assistant Adjutant, 1st MarDiv; Operations Officer, MAG-31; Assistant Operations Officer and F/A-18 Instructor, MAWTS-1; Executive Officer, Operations Officer, Weapons Systems Officer Training Officer, Assistant Operations Officer, Maintenance Quality Assurance Officer, Operations Flight Officer, and Legal Officer, VMFA(AW)-533; Officer in Charge, MATSS Beaufort; and Personnel Chief, HMH-461.

     Lieutenant Colonel Bryant received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a specialization in Human Resources Management, from The Ohio State University and a Master of Science in National Resource Strategy, with a concentration in Supply Chain Management, from the National Defense University's Eisenhower School. He has also completed the Marine Corps' Noncommissioned Officer, Amphibious Warfare School, and Command and Staff Distance Education Programs, as well as the MAWTS-1 Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course and numerous other military courses.

     Lieutenant Colonel Bryant’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award), Air Medal (Individual Action), Air Medal (Strike Flight numeral five), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two gold stars in lieu of third award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (one gold star in lieu of second award), and the Combat Action Ribbon.
