Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Engineer School
Colonel James H. Bain

Colonel Bain is from Shreveport LA, graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a BS Degree in Marketing, and earned his commission through the PLC Program.

Colonel Bain’s assignments in the Operating Forces include: Engineer Platoon Commander, Company Executive Officer and Company Commander, with 8th Engineer Support Battalion (1994-1997), deploying to Cuba for Operation SEA SIGNAL; Company Commander with 2d Combat Engineer Battalion (2000-2003), participating in OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM; Battalion Operations and Executive Officer with 2d Combat Engineer Battalion (2006-2008), deploying to Iraq for Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and commanding a provisional infantry task force; Commanding Officer of 3rd Combat Engineer Battalion (2009-2011), deploying to Afghanistan for Operation ENDURING FREEDOM; Future Operations Officer, Plans Officer and most recent, AC/S G3, II Marine Expeditionary Force (2015-2017). 

Other assignments include: Guard and Executive Officer, Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naples, Italy (1997-2000), participating and supporting Operations SILVER WAKE, RESOLUTE RESPONSE, JOINT GUARDIAN, ALLIED FORCE and JOINT TASK FORCE NOBLE ANVIL; Facilities Maintenance Officer, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii (2003-2006); Force Engineer, Marine Corps Forces Command, Norfolk, VA (2008-2009); Future Plans Chief, Joint Enabling Capabilities Command, Norfolk, VA (2012-2015).

In addition to The Basic School and the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Colonel Bain is a graduate of the U.S. Army Engineer Officer Advance Course, Marine Corps Command and Staff, and the Joint Advanced Warfighting School. He has earned a MS Degree in Strategy and Campaign Planning, National Defense University.
