SCTD COMMAND INFORMATION
Mission - Plan, coordinate, execute, and manage security cooperation (SC) activities and programs, to include training & education, advisor support, assessments, engagement planning, and security assistance in order to support United States Marine Corps, regional Marine component command, and Fleet Marine Force objectives.
History - Security Cooperation Training Detachment (SCTD) is the merger of the Marine Corps Training and Advisory Group (MCTAG) and the Marine Corps Security Cooperation Education and Training Center (SCETC). This combined command was officially established on 1 October, 2011 aboard Fort Story, VA in the former MCTAG compound. SCTD continues a long tradition of security cooperation that dates to the 1920s and '30s when the Marine Corps trained the Gendarmerie d'Haiti and the Guardia Nacional of Nicaragua
Organization - SCTD has four unique elements beyond the conventional staff organization found in every Marine headquarters:
- The Engagement Branch assist the regional Marine Forces headquarters in coordinating, planning, and executing SC events. The Engagement Branch has a dedicated regional section aligned to each MARFOR who specialize in their respective geographic area.
-The Assessment Branch plans, coordinates, and executes Foreign Security Force (FSF) and combined formation Assessments IOT support Geographic Combatant Command (GCC), Marine Force (MARFOR), and Marine Expeditionary Forces (MEF) Security Cooperation (SC) Assessment, Monitoring, and Evaluation (AM&E) efforts and initiatives.
- The Training Branch provides SC related training to active duty and reserve Marines tailored to the region and the anticipated SC mission. Elements of the Training Branch can also deploy forward to provide Mobile Training Teams in support of regional Marine Forces Headquarters.
- The Security Assistance (SA) Branch coordinates, manages, and executes U.S. Marine Corps Security Assistance education and training programs. International student training includes formal, informal, and distance learning in the U.S. or overseas.
