The purpose of this course is to provide the training necessary to serve as a Vehicle Commander of an Assault Amphibious Vehicle. Assault Amphibious Vehicle Commander will perform various duties incident to the operation and maintenance of assault amphibious vehicles and the Upgunned Weapons Station (UGWS) MK19 40 MM/50 CAL M2. AAVC prepares the AAV for the tactical employment of vehicle and crew during ship to shore movement and subsequent operations ashore. This course is designed to train Assault Amphibious Vehicle Commanders to perform various duties incident to the operation and maintenance of assault amphibious family of vehicles and is heavily focused on the Upgunned Weapons Station (UGWS) MK19 40 MM and M2 .50 Cal machine guns. This course introduces the Vehicle Commander to his crew and embarked personnel responsibilities, tactical employment and administrative functions. The ramp and field exercises are used to reinforce the classroom instruction.
