School of Infantry-East

This is the training that marks the transition from entry-level Marine to combat-ready Marine. At SOI, recently graduated enlisted Marines continue their education and training to become more proficient in the fundamentals of being a rifleman. Marines with a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of infantry are trained at the Infantry Training Battalion (ITB), while all non-infantry Marines are trained at the Marine Combat Training Battalion (MCT). There are two Schools of Infantry: Camp Geiger located in North Carolina and Camp Pendleton in California.

Infantry Training Battalion

Infantry Training Battalion (ITB) is a 59-day course. The mission is to train, mentor, and evaluate Marines in the Infantry MOS with specific entry-level tasks under the leadership of Combat Instructors. Marines are instructed in marksmanship, patrolling, grenade usage, identifying and countering improvised explosive devices, and land navigation, among other various infantry skills. In doing so, the Infantry Training Battalion provides the Corps with Marines who are fully prepared for combat service.

Marine Combat Training Battalion

Marine Combat Training Battalion (MCT) is a 29-day course. The mission is to train and conduct standards-based combat skills training of all non-infantry Marines in order to ensure that every Marine is a fighting Marine, regardless of their Military Occupational Specialty (MOS). Training includes marksmanship, combat formations, and patrolling, as well as other combat related skills.

As the parent or loved one of a Marine, you may have questions about how to best support your Marine. The LINKS Program offers an orientation to the Marine Corps lifestyle and helps family members better understand the unique challenges military life often presents. With an increased level of understanding comes an increased ability to provide support and advice as the parent or family member of a Marine.

This class will focus on the history and traditions of the Marine Corps; how to stay connected to your Marine; and understanding resources like Marine Corps Community Services, financial management, legal, medical and dental, and much more.

Out of a desire to keep graduations open and accessible for all families ensure to practice social distancing while aboard Camp Geiger and MCAS New River.

Masks are optional. If approved to attend graduations, during the conduct of the graduation ceremony, while seated in the bleachers, all guests must practice social distancing.

We ask that all guests visiting for family day and graduation arrive at the gate with a mask in the event that it is needed. We thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
Contacting Your Marine
Communicating with your Marine is of great importance and should be done at every opportunity. While undergoing training Marines will be limited to communicate only during the weekends unless otherwise stated by company leadership. Stay in contact with your Marine's training company to ensure you are given the appropriate times to make efforts to communicate with your Marine.

Things to do on base
Tailgating Policy

For family members/friends that intend to “tailgate” on family or graduation day, please do not conduct this activity in commercial areas as doing so will create traffic congestion and impedes our service members from conducting business and returning to work in a timely manner.

Below are some areas that can potentially be used for tailgating unless stated otherwise. Parking in areas not authorized creates a safety hazard and guests will be asked to move their vehicles. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

• Parking lots on Camp Geiger are for limited use
